Paypal, Can Someone Elaborate For Me

I've had quite a few of those e-mails. I would have gone to the link too, except my son stopped me! I use Paypal quite a bit and I find them quite good. I only pay/receive small amounts though. I'm not that trusting!

Obviously you are that trusting if you were about to click on a link from a supposed paypal email which didn't even use your name. It's called 'phishing'. If they don't use your name and refer to something you know nothing about, why click on the link and give all your details??
That's how people end up losing money. They blame paypal but it isn't paypal's fault if they have no sense.

it is good practice to NEVER follow a link when finance details are required (infact never follow a link in ANY unsolicited email)....Always go through proper website no matter how genuine the email seems.

BEWARE AGAIN
If you've got as far as simply opening an email, seen a suspicious link and then thought 'haha! Not me! I'm far too clever for that' could be enough to 'let them in'.

email is horribly insecure and can be used to launch (run) hidden programs - to this end PREVIEW PANE OFF <- worst security leak on the planet THAT IS SET ON BY DEFAULT in Micro$oft Outlook!

'So what?' - well such hidden programs could be 'key loggers' - these programs simply remember every key you press on your keyboard, store it in a file and then send it off to a gangster somewhere - so you log into PayPal, 2 hours later someone, somewhere has your username and password.

Credit where it's due, THESE PEOPLE ARE CLEVER!

Regularly scan your computer using Anti-SpyBot and Anti-Virus Software and always make sure Windows is bang up to date.

NEVER EVER open emials IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY'RE FROM. <- I tell my wife this and she still gets caught out and so do I.

Wow thanks for all the feed back guys.

My dad when he originally finally unlocked most of my parental controls on my email he told me not to open any email I don't know who it's from and don't download attachments without asking him, though with our email most of the junk goes into a junk folder. There is a lot of junk out there and too many smart dumb people that wish to come up with new things to get peoples money instead of working for it, but aren't they still working

So basically if you are not dumb and trusting paypal can be ok and since my bankaccount doesn't have much money in it that I would use it wouldn't be that dangerous either.

dizzied and fenwoman, is it free to open a debit card? So unless somebody insists somebody can pay money to you to your debit card or paypal? I'm going to ask my dad but I'm sure he doesn't know as much as you because he uses visa not debit

sorry for the questions but my dad isn't much of a help on these matters, since he doesn't use them.

Maybe we are extra paranoid but with our bank it is free to open a basic checking account/debit card and we have one just for online transactions.
We put money into the account when we know we are going to use it and take it out when we are done, that way hopefully if our info got into the wrong hands then we would not be TOTALLY screwed.

the funniest thing about those paypal scammers is that they sent me an email even though i dont have an account

I only buy and sell things on ebay with cash/cheque. I dont worry aboutdealing with anybody that uses paypal. Cash on delievery or bank deposit is the only way i go. But im only new really to the ebay thing.
