My Guppy Fry Journal

If it makes you feel better...all of my platy fry right now lived through the 2 weeks that I was fighting ich. I think the fry minded the high temps less. and I didn't lose any when treating. Good luck!! I hope you caught it early.

I'm not sure though that quarantining is good once you have seen spots? By the time the spots show up, I thought that you have to treat the tank.

Ok I will treat the tank. I saw on another forum (before I put it up on here) that treating it with water changes and high temps is better than medication. What's peoples views on this?
I have snails in the tank who turn the sand all the time, I syphon the sand every morning too. I do water changes every morning aswell (only 2 buckets which is about 25-30%)

Higher temperature doesn't treat the ich. It just speeds the cycle of the disease so you can get rid of it faster. If you want a natural way, then you need to add salt to the tank. I can't confirm what dose would work as I never treated ich with salt but I am sure there are plenty of threads here with info or just open your own one.
Platies will not mind the salt at all if that's what you have.

I will get some salt from pets at home tomorrow. I have a 6/7 week old baby platy and the rest are guppies, 3 males, 3 females and about 20 babies, 10 one week old and 10 a few days old :(

Ugh! Sorry you have to deal with ich too. Good luck with it! I bet the fry will be ok. Mine were only a week or 2 old when I had to start treating and they lived.

I hope so :)

Ich cannot be treated by removing a fish to a Q tank. The ich parasite goes through a life cycle that ends up including everyone in the tank in rather short order. Instead perform your treatment on the whole tank. If you have nothing but livebearers in the tank, try the salt treatment approach. It works great and does not cause you to lose your cycle the way so many other treatments will. I have a link to a superb discussion of the disease and its treatment in my signature area. I called it Ich Info.

Thanks very much I will have a look. I have guppies and I forgot about my cories, I have 5 of them too. Will they be able to tolerate it?

I didn't do the salt because of my cories, but I was timid and also didn't raise my temp higher then 82 degrees because I read it was bad for cories. But it just made the ich last longer and eventually I went to 85. Maybe start out aggressive with your temp. My cories still seem rattled from the meds and high temps, and I feel like it was because I made the ich cycle last so long by not raising the temp enough.

I have raised the temp can I be stupid and ask what the temp is in degrees? I only raised it to 27 it was at 25. Should I go to pets at home and buy medication or should I do salt? I'm just thinking what my fry are able to tolerate. I don't want to kill them with actual medication.
