My Guppy Fry Journal

Snazy your tank is incredible and your guppies are stunning! Thanks for sharing! Do you have a pic of the tank with the females?
You were right about the red one, her bellies gone down a little but the yellow one is now showing a red gravid spot. I can't wait for babies! It's been 3 months since I have had babies even though I have male and female guppies! I am jealous of folk who have 20-30 fry or more-I would love to be overstocked (I know that sounds wrong lol) but I have a powerful filter and I do enough water changes to keep everyone happy :p

Here is a video of my femal platy tank. I actually opened a new thread about my monster platy as I couldn't believe how big she's become. She will be seen in the middle of the video, you'll know it

...oh my... I am guessing the red wag one with black fins n tail? Prize if i'm right? :p lol
That reminds me of a platy I had she was a yellow tuxedo and she was a beast too! I love how active platies are (probably scavenging for food lol)
That tanks lovely too, I love the half coconut caves! Are they real coconut shells? I wish I had space for a decent sized tank. My plants started getting holes in them and turning yellow. I am treating them with fertiliser once a week and they seem to be improving. :good:

The coconuts shells are real. You can get them on e-bay or pet shop very cheaply. I decorated them with anubias myself. I don't add fertilizer at all but I only have hydrophilia and anubias which don't seem to need any.

Oooh I will have to have a look on ebay! I have went through so many plants, I had water lettuce which disappeared, I had red cabomba it grew for ages and flowered but then it just wilted and died. The anubias I had did the same. Now I have 5 bunches of amazon sword which have grown very big and java moss and thats it.

The anubias can only melt in soft water(hates low Ph) otherwise it is undestructable. :D

How low cus that might explain it! I live in Scotland, At the time I had the anubias the tanks PH was yellow. I couldn't get it any higher! But we all know, stable PH is better than spot on PH :good: Now it seems to have settled it's a greeny blue colour so maybe around 7?

So I was thinking I haven't seen my yellow female since I came home. I can't see her anywhere I can't see behind the plants or the caves and then suddenly-a tiny orange fry came darting out :hyper:
I ran to get the trap and of course it's disappeared. I have put an algae wafer in to distract the others but I knew it wouldn't be long til she dropped, she was huge! I hope some survive, I haven't had fry in months!

Congratulations on the fry. Today, I suddenly realised that one of my platies is a male . He is one of the smallest, so seems like late developer but my chunky females maybe in fact pregnant. I moved him out already to where my males are but it's too late. Personally, I hope no fry survive but most of the platy babies always do :/ One of the females has balooned a lot.

The Ph for anubias has to be anything over 7 to thrive as far as I know. Not sure at what point it melts.

Oh no! Maybe they are in fact pregnant then. What a sneaky guy!
I managed to catch my little bright orange fry! I have never had one that colour before. It is tiny! I just hope it survives!

Can't believe I missed it. My 3 males are loving the new company. I honestly think platies and guppies are shoaling species, always together in a bunch. Looks lovely in a bigger tank.

That bright orange fry will most likely turn all red. My mickey mouse red ones were born this colour.

Aww that's good :D My 2 males are really funny to watch, chase each other around all the time.

I just found my yellow female who gave birth-half eaten by snails  This is going to sound crazy but-they don't just attack fish randomly do they? I had put a "broken jar" ornament into the tank I bought it when I first bought the tank and then took it out. I only put it in cus it's a dark space and she was indeed in there having the babies and i've just removed her from there

Strange that she died. Sorry to hear that. Are there any other fish that may have possibly stressed her as the most common reason for females dying after birth is if they are being harrassed. They really get exhausted by the experience.

Why are my females always dead after giving birth grrr. She was gorgeous yellow with 2 bars on her tail. She was in there herself - but then I got back around 5ish so I don't know how long ago she had given birth and if everyone else was harassing her and I don't see any more fry-I only ever get 1 or 2 but.....HERE HE IS!!!
3...2...1...spot the fry!
