My Guppy Fry Journal

I actually have little platy fry in with the adults. The late developing male had it's say :grr: I saw some with black tails already so they are doing fine hiding  I couldn't even venture a guess which female gave birth

Lol! Was that the male you found in with your females? Aww everyone loves babies!
My platy fry went in with the adults at a month old.
I just read back a few pages in my thread to the pics of my platy fry I found a month ago and they are identical and just a little lighter colour so that confirms it. My mystery fry are platies! Yay I am finally going to be overstocked! But the powerful filter and my many water changes will keep everything at peace! I would love a tank full of colourful male guppies so might give the females to the woman who takes the fry off me!

Yep, the male I found too late  I really hope not many fry survived.
A little overstocked, if you have platies and guppies only is acceptable as long as you have the filtration for it. I think they like their own company and mine are always bunched up in a group, even though they've plenty of space.

Ok there is something wrong with my male platy. I now know why he's always in the plants-he's very sick. His body has suddenly curved round and he can hardly even swim up to feed. His body is also covered in white patches-NOT SPOTS. HE DOES NOT HAVE ICH. I have dealt with this and know the symptoms. This makes him look like he's meant to be red and white.
I have a pic

I think it's looks fungal I have never dealt with this kind of thing before and don't know what the best action would be. The whole of his left side is white patches.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I would post it in the emergency section in a separate thread. It could be an advanced bacterial/fungal infection or columnaris.

I noticed he couldn't even swim upto the food this morning. So I pushed the flakes down and they were falling right in front of his face but he wasn't even interested, just trying to stay upright. That's when I knew there was nothing I could do for him.
The others started picking on his tail but he couldn't swim away so I had no choice but to euthanize him

He's now free of suffering.

I let my 3 biggest fry out the trap today, they are the same length as the platy fry but not as stocky. Then I noticed movement near the plants, I took a closer look and there it was - a guppy fry no more than a few days old. Then I found another. The female who was still massive after having her fry a few weeks ago is now properly skinny so I suspect she's dropped again but maybe only a few days ago. I only found 2 so far. One I caught and is in the trap-it looks tiny compared to the rest of them!!! They all have black tails and this ones just tiny and clear with the big fat belly! Oh what it's like to be overstocked! lol!

I'm overstocked too! - Bloody platies never stop breeding... I love it really

Lol so do I! I love the fact that there's going to be so much colour and I do enough water changes to support it. I found altogether 7 new babies! They are swimming at the front near the sand like the older ones used to! Also the mystery fry is still very small. I had found 4 orange ones altogether but the others tails got pin shaped and they all died. Only one survived and I put him into the main tank. I will try and catch him and put him into the trap he's the same size as the guppy fry and is about 3 weeks old. He should be bigger.

Guess who's back :)

Hi guys I know I have been away for what seems like ages but I have had a really bad time, i've moved house twice, I woke up yesterday and all my fish had died. I put this in the introductions section so sorry if i'm repeating myself.
Basically as I was emptying the water to bin the tank I noticed movement and found a lone female guppy and her 10 fry. Then I found an albino cory and and otto-these were the only survivors. This gave me hope and made me realise how much I missed you guys and missed updating my thread and helping others. I will not be defeated, this is the next chapter-10 surprise guppy fry as she wasn't even huge!
my sorry looking tank after I stripped all the plants down and separated them. The bulbs blown but I ordered a new one and it should be here mon/tues hopefully.

my female

my babies

I am hoping no more fatalities.
I will be getting a 3 1/2 ft tank from my landlady who is fish daft too! She has 3 tanks and once her cory eggs hatch I will be getting some of them too.
Here's to the next chapter, and a new beginning :)

Ok so I had 10 babies in the trap, I now have 6 and 4 are in the main tank! They keep escaping! I am actually thinking of letting them all out into the main tank as the only threat is their mum and she's swimming about happily.

I let all the babies into the main tank yesterday they will be happier, woke up this morning and all fish are still alive. A few fry playing in the air bubbles a few out in the open and the rest must be hiding-or have been eaten. Won't find out until they are older!

Just came back from being out and the female guppy is dead. Just left with 10 fry an albino cory and an otocinclus. I am so frustrated. Did another 90% water change, my stats were perfect this morning, they are perfect again. Really don't know what's going on.

It's great to see you back here Nylah, you were sorley missed by me and by other members I'm sure.

Sorry to here about your run of bad luck, I hope all stays good for you.

Look forward to seeing your new tank and posts.

Thanks Pete. Like you said, onwards and upwards. As soon as I get my new tank I will do another journal :)

Received an email from amazon saying my replacement bulb has finally been dispatchecd! That's what these babies need-light! Poor things have been with no lights on just a lamp next to them probably blinding them! Should be here mon/tues!
