My Guppy Fry Journal

Maybe they are still recovering so the labor was tougher? They'll be ok, I bet. :good:

What a great thread this is, reminds me of my days of breeding guppies, congrats :)

Thanks very much. Do you not breed guppies anymore?
The reason I started it was because one the "sticky" threads at the top of the livebearer section - stages of a guppy pregnancy -is from 2007 so the photographs have been deleted or moved from the posters photobucket account so we can't see the pics. I looked all over trying to find a "guppy fry progress chart" to compare mines with but can't find one anywhere so I put my own pics up. I am hoping people can see my thread and maybe relate to it or find it useful.

How exciting for you, no more nasty ich and hopefully some new fry to enjoy.

Well i'm still on my ich guard lol. The temp is now 27. I'm Just back from shopping no fry just yet not long now though :)

They are still fat so no fry just yet, I am predicting they still have a few days to go yet. The one who is my oldest frys mum she dropped at the weekend last time so she only has days to go if that. Could be sooner. She is square and has the birthing tube so anytime now really :hyper:

On the subject of fry mines are doing really well, some have yellow tails, some black, one has a red tail, then there's smudgy who is grey with black splodges on tail and fins and some are still white. Soo cute! Can't wait until they colour up!

My guppy fry are not yet 2 weeks so have not changed much really, my 4 week old dalmations are starting to get spots now. It is just amazing to watch them grow, we lost two of our male guppies to the ich so I am hoping one of them got to my female after she dropped so a little bit of them can live on, guess we will see in a couple of weeks... Good luck with your girls and looking forward to seeing the new arrivals.

Aww sorry to hear that, I think most of my fry died with the ich.
Thanks. I am not too bothered about my blond girls fry as they are the ones which are 3 weeks old. My other blonde female was identical to her, she died after having her babies-they are 2 weeks old but only a few left I can only see 3 or 4 as they are the tiny ones the ich must have wiped them out. I am looking forward to my other females fry as she has the "cobra" pattern on her tail so I will definitely be keeping an eye on her and saving her fry if I can.

Here are some updates of the fry.

That's all for now :D

The temp is now sitting about 26 and this is the first time in 2 weeks I have seen the cories swimming and playing in the bubbles. They are obviously a lot happier now that the temp is back to normal :)

Glad it's all back to normal. So much about cories not surviving salt treatment

I think people just get cautious that's all or worried because cories aren't saltwater fish lol but mines have been absolutely fine. People will always say oh you can't do that - maybe due to their experience but I had no choice, I had to take the risk. I do believe any longer and they might have started showing distress signals but they are absolutely fine and even though this thread is about my guppies, I will try and capture them tonight. It looks like the tables have turned now though-my guppies are sluggish since the temp went down and the cories are more active!

For now though I got a really good pic of 2 of my males - the 3rd is stuck to the pregnant females side

Here is pregnant girl 1 the mum of my oldest fry taken about an hour ago.

I don't know if you can see the little white thing sticking out her, it's tiny, she's not as square as yesterday so I think she might drop over the weekend or early next week at the latest.

And finally an update on female 2-I now think she has another week to go, I am hoping it's after the first female as these are the ones I would love to save just because of the pattern on mums tail :D

Thanks :)

Sorry for being pic heavy but here is female 1 taken about 10 mins ago. I really think she is very close. The others wont leave her alone she keeps getting nipped from the males and now the females have started doing it I am really considering moving her to the net-just so she will stop being harassed.

Thanks

Wow she does look close.....

She is a cube with fins lol. She has disappeared but there is a fuss around her so I don't know if she's started.
I didn't know what to look for last time, she just disappeared into the plants and had them. This time she can't go anywhere there is always someone stuck to her. I am disappointed my red cabomba and my amazon swords aren't here yet. The amazon swords in the tank at the moment started to go brown only happened after I put the heat up and added the salt. Hoping they will recover now.

I thInk that it is more nerve racking when you know what to look for not only because your worried for the mum but you want to save the babies as well, our first drop happened over night and we only ever saw 8 babies I am of course telling myself that she only had 8 and I rescued them all . Now I try and guess when the girls are due and move them in with the bigger fry when I think they are few days away from dropping that way I know at least that my bigger fish won't feast.

Well I know this is going to sound really morbid but i'm not too bothered about her fry as I have her fry already growing up-a whole 1 month old tomorrow :D i'm so proud! But the other mama with the cobra tail is the one I want to save some fry from just because it will be her first drop with me. As soon as she gets square I will be on fry guard and put them into the plastic trap which is floating in the net trap. When they are too big to escape out the net they can go into that!
Still nothing though. It's just a waiting game :)

Did someone say cory? I know my thread is about my guppy fry but I got a very rare shot-just to show my cories are survivors and the salt didn't affect them (as far as i'm aware)

Still no sign of fry yet. She is so close though!

Well this morning I put the lights on and everyone came to the top for food - except my pregnant cobra tail. She seems to be missing. I have searched everywhere for her :( I thought maybe she's in the plants in labour or maybe she's in the cories slate cave. Nowhere to be seen. I have noticed all my snails gathered in one spot and am wondering if she's maybe had complications and the snails are disposing of her. I checked my water stats and ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0 and nitrates are about 30-40. I will do a water change to see if I can find her. I was hoping she maybe had a few fry before she died but I don't see any :(
Oh well. I still have my pregnant female who hasn't dropped yet. I also have another cobra female who has purple on her tail and fins when the light hits it. Just the life cycle I suppose.

On a better note, the first batch of fry are now 4 weeks old today. The little ones are 3 weeks old tomorrow. I am hoping the little ones will colour up too. There is the grey one, the other grey one - smudgy and 2 little blonde ones.
