I just found out that my cat of 10years has Feline AIDS :( She's been showing all the symptoms of weight loss, dermatisus, appetite loss and fever, and we think she's had it for several years. I have 3 other cats living in the house with her.
Does anyone else's cat have FIV so they could give advice about how to help with FIV (I know it is incurable). Thanks

I'm really sorry to hear that your cat has FIV, my poor Basil got it when he was young. He tested positive for it and had treatment in Newmarket, some weeks later he tested negative :kana: I was in seventh heaven, unfortuantely it had damaged his internal organs and he died a while later from organ failure.

Apparently some cats have a natural resistance to FIV and can get a positive test result whilst fighting off the virus, they can then make a full recovery - I realise this is rather rare, but it is worth having the test done again in a few weeks, you never know you may be lucky.

Ensure she has a really good diet to give her all the nutrition she needs to try and either fight it off or stay fit for longer - also because she will be immuno compromised, keep everything as clean as possible so she doesnt pick up an infection - good luck, my thoughts are with you.

I seem to remember reading a good web site about it, I will see if I can find it for you.

So, there is hope, I had two other cats at the time, both of which live indoors - I decided not to test them as I don't think I could have stood worrying all the time if they tested positive, I decided that ignorance was bliss (they had already been sharing everything so I assumed that if they had it, they had it!) - luckily neither of them have shown any signs and it is now several years on.

I also found this one, but bear in mind that not everything you read on the internet is true and there's an awful lot of people out there trying to make money out of unfortunate people - having not read through it I dont know whether this is genuine or not, but it might be - so worth reading:

I am so sorry

my main concern is unfortunately for the other cats - - FiV is contagious...i would see if it was financially possible for you to have the other cats tested - - if negative keep them separated from any infected feline - - different litterbox, food bowls etc - just no interaction whatsoever to preserve any noneffected cats health

I again am so sorry about your cat.. it is quite obvious you care for her and i am sure she knows that

Thank you for all this information, I will have a read through and see what other information I can find.

Thanks for the help. I was too initially worried about the others, but I have a feeling other cats can only catch it if they get scratched by her, and (touch wood) she isn't a scratcher. I might be wrong, but thank you for the help and support.

No useful advice, but wanted you to know i'm thinking of you and your kitty :( so sad and worrying
