My "add And Wait" Fishless Cycle Diary :)

Cool Thanks for your support Si :good:

As far as the smoking goes I almost crumbled :( This is a testing time for me literally lol

Thanks also for your help fishy55 via here and the pm :good:

Clint.

Time:0900 Date: 13th May 2010

Just for the record I tested the Ammonia level this morning to see what it is and it's 0 ppm. (I am not topping up lol)

Looks like i'm back on track!

See you all latter at 2200hrs

Sounds like your fishless cycle is staying on track Clint. The members are keeping you on the straight and narrow. Don't touch that smoke Clint - when we do university research trying to count incidences of various disease deaths for the more rare diseases we have a terrible time even identifying the deaths because they are overwhelmed by all the deaths due to smoking. In my opionion just about the best possible two things any person can do for his own life is to not smoke and to try to walk or get some other exercise for about an hour a day. I know one guy who was successful quiting smoking by keeping a bag of those baby carrots around - every time he couldn't take it anymore he'd reach for a baby carrot to crunch on, lol. --wd--

Thanks ~~waterdrop~~ i'll keep what you have said in mind! I have just started a course of Champix which stop you from having the urge, the only problem is you have to go through the Cold Turkey  which is not good for my family. I'll have to carry some Carrots around! (sounds like a good idear)

I have also been offered some muture media (5 years old) from a lady on this forum, which I will be picking up in a week or so.

Clint.

Also I thought I would upload a picture of my tank for you all to see !

I have just topped up my Ammonia as advised (once in 24hrs)

I have noticed that my pH has changed?

Just for the record I put some decor in my tank to-day for something to look at!

If anyone with knowledge of the fishless cycle "Add & Wait" passes by Could you tell me if everything is looking ok?

Thanks
Clint.

That bit of a pH change is nothing to worry about, just keep an eye on it for now.

Back to the smoking. I gave it up completely by using a nicotine patch system. It took care of the chemical addiction and all I had to do was give up the habits involved. The cigarette after eating was probably the hardest one to get past, but with the chemical support from the patch I never went back. That was after over 30 years of 1 1/2 packs a day and after my cancer surgery.

Thanks for popping by OldMan47 :) and i'll keep an eye on the pH then!

I started smoking when I was 8 years old (Shocking I know!) I have tried to give up a few times now and failed miserably :( This is my second atempt of giving up with the aid of Champix, The first time I tried I managed 3 months but started smoking again due to not being able to handle the side affects, My GP told me that I should of gone back to see him and he would of extended my prescription as Champix was new then and nobody knew quite what to perscribe!

I hope your ok now as far as the BIG C goes?

I just lost my mum at the beginning of the year as she was riddled with it, I also lost my brother to it when he was 32! I seem to be lucky so far, that is one of the reasons I have decided to have another go at giving up!

I have just gone back into my kitchen to tidy up and decided to check the test tubes against the colour chart before tipping them down the sink and have noticed that

pH: is now 8.0 ppm

Nitrite: is now 0 ppm

The test results have been sitting around for quite a while

Question:

Is this the true reading or not or should the result be bang on the five minute mark? (edit) I belive my testing vaired slightly as PDsimon suggested because I didn't veiw the results on the 5 minute mark (could of been up to a minute or two either way :stupid: I'll make sure I test each one correctly from now on!

Clint.

Oh I forgot to mention I bought some Carrots to-day, They should improve my health & eye sight

Ph is back up again :good: Just added 3ml of Ammonia. Waiting until tomorrow 2200 to test again!

The reading that you want to use for your chemistry is the color you see after the 5 minutes wait. Going back an hour later will not improve the quality of your test results and may mislead you. I always rinse out my test tubes as soon as I read a result and leave the test tube upside down to air dry.

Thanks oldman47 :good:

I should be getting some mature media in about a weeks time or sooner fingers crossed ;) I was just wondering would I still adding the same amount of Ammonia as I do at the moment to my fishless cycle "Add & Wiait" or would it be less?

Clint.

Hi noobie,

Its a bit confusing sometimes but I don't know what 3ml is for your tank (is it 3-4-5ppm?)

Assuming that you've added 4-5ppm of ammonia on day 8, and that has all gone by day 9 you can start adding 3ppm

:good:

edit: didn't see the pics - tank looks great and I like the placement :)

Thanks Si,

edit:
I have always wanted to place a tank in the wall but never got around to it! But I now have a 9 month old Grandson and when I popped into my lfs I decided to show him the fish and ofcourse he loved them, So that gave me the push I needed. I just carn't wait untill my cycle is over as it will save on Petrol (Lol) as taking him to and throw each weekend is putting more money in the Goverments pocket. £1.21 a litre come on!

I did forget to mention it's 5 ppm Ammonia!

So are you recommending that I should now start adding enough Ammonia to bring it down to 3 ppm now as 5 ppm is going within 24Hrs?

Back in 20min's just going to get ready to do my test's 2200 :shout:

Clint.

I am indeed :)

Its what I am doing currently on my cycle. Its a method waterdrop advised and I can't quite remember why it works but I may dig it out at some point if you're interested, its in my blog somewhere probably!

This phase is the 'nitrite spike'. You're just waiting for this nitrites to come and then go hopefully quickly! :)

I have been looking forward to the 'nitrike spike' phase

I just added 1.8ml Ammonia. (Now down to 3 ppm)
