ok now i'm in the middle of a debate with a few FKs about this...

1 person i know has lost over 30 fish since x-mas (he wont stop fiddling with the water params....)
i have lost a generous 11 (i dont think its that high but i added a couple just to be sure, and 3 of those were given to a lfs) mainly down to bad advice from lfs("3 sucking loaches will do great with angels sir") but also from my unforgivable mistakes (new didn't know bout cycling)
and another person has told me they've not lost 1 fish since they started 4 years ago....

i'm interested in seeing other peoples out of curiousity

Since new year, we've lost two guppies and three mollies.
I just can't keep those darn livebearers alive.

It's all relative. Some fish live only a couple of years so annual deaths are expected, while some will live 20 or 30 years if properly cared for and even one death in 4 years may be too much. Plus it's natural that somebody who keeps 10 of something might lose 1 in 4 years, but somebody who keeps 100 of something could lose 10 and be on equal footing.

BTW, do all the feeder fish I've lost to predetors count?

Since about two years ago, I've probably lost around 8 bettas... all veiltails from Walmart, and most to bacterial infections (horrible finrot that turned into body rot, mostly,) that they couldn't manage to shake no matter what kinds of meds I gave them. I'm convinced that this is because they were so inbred their immune systems were compromised

I have yet to lose a betta that came from a breeder, and some of my LFS bettas are going on 3 years old. For some reason, though, I keep buying the Walmart veils... what can I say, the little guys just steal my heart

mmm, think I lost a Platy (dropsy don't understand this as I've never ever lost a fish to this illness) and a Rummy nose (died within a few hours of purchase). Oh and 2 Bleeding Heart's in the same night for some very obscure and unknown reason

Since I started, 3 guppies. This is due to not cycling properly, being too impatient, over stocking, buying 'coldwater' guppies and, obvioulsy, them being so inbred. TBH they really put me off livebearers, I'd only get them if I had a large tank to produce some slightly less inbred ones.

I've only had fish since middle of april. I have lost 1 guppy (he only lasted a day in my tank) and I have a total of 11 fish at the mo, but one of my corys looks like he might die soon

I've been keeping fish for 5 years...haven't really kept track. I would say easily 50+ fish I've lost. This is due to comments like "Of course you can stick those little feeder goldfish (and as many as you like) in your 5 1/2 gallon" and "Cycling? You can do, but it'll take you atleast 6 weeks, so we wouldn't reccomend it" AND the fact that I didn't start doing my research until like 2 years ago...

to many to count! Most from aggresive guppy and molly. Which I bet everyone thinks is a hoot, and alot from Ich!!!

3 marbled gobies: One jumped (I didn't think it would jump out it's *larger* home the net hasn't come back off)..one to sap...One unknown. The two I have now have been going strong for several months.

1 violet goby: came from cloudy tank and was sticking it's head out of the water *before* it had to go though an hour of transport in too small a bag (I did not buy nor was I present for this one my signifigant other did it).

2 unknown gobies: realised they were sickly half way home and they died overnight in qt

One gold gourami, two clown loaches, one male betta, one platy, a few danios, and lots of guppies...failure to qt guppies columnaris confused for sap......

One kuhli loach and two neons eaten by a 12" koi....

EDIT: this is only this year I plan on none for the next six months except fry that are thrown in the predator tank Last year I lost about 20 koi to bacterial gill disease...and one weather loach that had a white spot on her side I thought was going away...

I keep various barbs, plecos, and corys. I have no lost a fish in 9months, before that about 1 year.

I should hope most fish would die from old age, and I believe if properly kept there should be no reason for them to die any other way...inless a diesease or something was introduced into there tank by another fish, then thats a little different.

Does it count if the fish dies of a bacterial infection it can't shake because of a weakened immune system due to age, heh?
I think one of my favourite bettas, Altarib, is currently swimming that road
He's over two years old...

In the two months I've had the tank set up, I've lost two of my original four fish. One died the day I bought him, and the other one accidentally impaled herself on a plastic plant a couple of weeks later. I know I've lost some fry because both times I found fry in the tank, I hadn't even realized the mama was pregnant. Of the first batch, 8 survived. Of the second batch, only one.

Lost 1 neon in January. Since then, touch wood, everything has been fine.
