Male Or Female?

That Tolak guy said i could have a trio of guppies and 1 Betta, should the Betta be a male or female? I thought female but I'm not sure..

Far be it for me to go up against 'that Tolak guy' but I would have thought that as male Betta do not tolerate their own kind male guppy come pretty close to be mistaken for another small male.......

In a community tank maybe but in a species tank???

I can't believe Tolak would recommend guppies and bettas together; it's a no-no, whatever sex the bettas is, IMO.

Are you sure he didn't say guppies or a betta?

Well i was asking him about that inch per gallon thing for slim fish or whatever. and i said what can i have. I want a betta and guppies, he said a trio of guppies and a betta would work i guess.

Hey Jakey! Nice to see you looking for opinions and info! Ps: trio of guppies OR a Betta, unfortunately both wont work together, But either choice is just as cool! Both have some really flashy colors!

The general advice is to not keep guppies and fighters together as their bright colours confuse the bettas which can lead to fighting. But there is a lot of members who do keep them together with no issues what so ever.

Yeah I have seen a couple that have them together, no problems. I had evil guppies. (before i knew they shouldnt be kept together) Had the guppies for about a week. 5 of them. They nipped and harrassed the betta so I moved him to his own tank. Then the guppies turned on the platys and swords.

I have never seen guppies school. I think these guys were mafia or something. They were taken back to the LFS within a week.
