Lucys Tank Journal

oops... OK

*edit* so filter IS in line somewhere then. Like truck says then, if you like it, leave it. Less work.

:good:

No its doesnt just go down and come back uppp!!!!!!!! it goes down through the steriliser out the other end and gets pumped back up into the tank, so its constantly sterilising the water

you dont get us lol

the water isnt bein pumped into the UV sterilizer it is just falling through on a gravity feed which isnt a very efficient way of doing things and you risk running the filter dry aswell as the water is not being pumped, if something was to clog the weir your filter would run dry as the water isnt being fed through it!

and the water maybe being pumped through the filter quicker than it falls through the weir

Regardless, I'd be getting my stanley knife out very carefully & cutting it out TBH. Cannot think of a single good reason to keep it in there really, can you ask the previous owner as to it's function.

it will have been used as a saltwater tank previously hence the over flow to a sump.

no i still dont. I ahve no idea what you just said

Yes it was used as a saltwater, how do i use the steriliser thennn!!!

right, answer these questions, the pipe coming out the bottom of the tank is going to the UV? then to the filter? then to the tank? if all are yes then you could risk running the filter dry! as the water runs down the back of the weir over flow box and is gravity fed to the UV and filter, but if the filter is pumping water into the tank quicker than it can be replenished by the over flow, you risk running dry

No it runs to the UV and then goes back into the tank. Filter is seperate altogether.

that wont work because theres nothing to pump the water back into the tank. the Uv should be connected to the filter out let, and then back to the tank

Inlet in tank -> hose -> UV filter inlet | UV Filter outlet -> hose -> Filter inlet (which has a pump) ! Filter outlet -> hose -> back into tank.

hopefully you can see this:

UV & Filter usually tucked back behind tank.

Alright lets forget the steriliser, where does the UV unit go other than there?
the UV unit is the steriliser, connect your filter up, and where the water comes out of the filter (the external) measure about 30 cm and cut the pipe, then insert the UV unit as appropriate and bobs your uncle! you will need that hole plugging though(in the over flow box)
