Interesting...

It should of caurse be pointed out that the advertised crayfish may not be legal in the UK ;)

... This animal is a TRUE CLONE and only one individual can start a whole COLONY! Marbled Crayfish are used in Genetics Research and Biology classes because they are so unique. In fact we supply them to the Biology Labs at Harvard University! ...

So how long would it take these to screw up an entire ecology, once getting loose?

I was also reading not long ago about several epidemics traced back to rodents, such as hamsters, bred for the lab, sold as pet stock, and carrying nasties...

I pointed this out to see if anyone came to that conclusion syphoniera. They mess up the local environment, and we,, the fishkeepers get blamed for it. This is the type of thing that gets us those laws of banning our precious fish.

Just a heads up, mixed with a tiny bit of a rant ^_^

quite right, totally illegal in the UK.

and plague carriers to boot!

thing is Fishleepers and their suppliers, are the cause! these things were breed for food, first of all. a genetic mutation created by man. the only reason it still exists is because fishkeepers buy them! i guess they don't taste too good lol.
of all the crayfish in the UK, legal or not, this is by far the most dangerous, and its not even natural! every drop of water you remove from its tank, at water changes, is swarming with the plague spores, spreading the fungi even more.

though a temperate Cray, the only safe way to keep it is with the water just above boiling! and for me you could add the guy who is selling them too.

We do not ship to locations outside the USA, because of a perceived threat to ecosystems in the U.K. (of course, these recycled news stories receive more than their fair share of British scare-tactic press)

Recycled? Scare-tactics?

Quite rightly so me thinks!

It's typical of certain now-standard giant industry PR tactics - any time you hear that type of kindergarten sneering at legitimate actions or concerns in the hope that the gullible will mindlessly do the same, look to see who/what's profiting from such a response...
You'd think the tactic itself would backfire heavily, as it's very character-revealing.

I've seen that same ad posted locally to me here in Illinois....kinda spammish....but interesting none the less
