I Have A Suggestion

There are 2 things that really get on my nerves sometimes. The first, being people who have been long term members and think they know everything about fish keeping. Imediatly assuming their way is the best way. Sadly, a few general ways have been developed for keeping fish and thats what everyone takes as law now. If someone disputes that, they must be either wrong, and not know what they are talking about, or lucky to be succeeding. The second thing that annoys me, is when someone asks for advice on how to stock a tank, then decides to do something different. Its like people take offense because their advice wasn't taken. You'll get a lot of conflicting advice on the internet, you can't chose them all, just because your advice wasn't chosen doesn't mean either of you is wrong and horrible, just that you have gone different paths.
So yea, work on that and it'd be better imo.

The longer you are involved in aquatics the more you know, but you also see how much more there is to learn. One person will never know everything about aquatics, the same as one doctor will never know everything about medicine. This is the reason more experienced aquarists will find a nitch of sorts, and specialize, just like doctors.

You may become very knowledgeable in that narrow area, and expand out a bit, but anything having to do with your favorite area will get your attention, because you know you will never know everything. The most knowledgeable people in any field are always striving to learn more. To learn at a higher level you have to have reasonably good communication skills. Those that have a hard time communicating are probably going to have difficulty learning at that higher level, thus they aren’t as smart as they try to portray themselves.

The main reason to be kind to newbies is that they might not be newbies for long. They may specialize in an area that interests you in the future. You will be the newbie then, and will appreciate the helpful manner in which they assist you.

I so know where your coming from, I came here alot last year then I left and remember just the other week about the place and couldnt remember why i stopped coming. i have no realised why.. wont be long untill i dont come anymore. Also good luck with the birth, not long now eh!

It would be cool if it comes 9 days early, April 10th is a mighty fine day to be born. ;) My wife is due July 1st, we just found out were having a boy also, how awesome is that?! Our first one so were pretty excited.

:hyper: :- :drink: :band:

Congrats!!

I know its so exciting! Good luck to you guys. I will have a lovely pidgeon pair (one of each sex) so we are very happy and have decided that 2 is enough, no more for us!

I'm going to have my hands full though, my daughter wont even be 2 years old when he is born

Here's an idea- why don't we pin one of these threads so it stays on the front page? The second one of these yawn-fests falls to the second page, a new one is created.

And honestly, people just need to grow a backbone. I very rarely see outright rudeness that wasn't at least slightly provoked.

And there ya go... a rude post that didn't need to be posted. How about some people think and take a deep breath before they type something rude?
It should tell you something needs to be done if people keep posting these same types of threads over and over again.

I'm really enjoying these forums b/c there is so much info here and there are some really great and helpful people.
But there are some who just have the worst snottiest elitist attitudes.

I asked for help tonight and to begin with got very unhelpful responses and felt like typing a rude response and removing this site from my favourites, I will think twice before asking for help again. Those that did help I am extremely greatful but its the odd one that spoils it, after all the site is to help and gain info isnt it??

There was a thread in this sectio a few weeks ago moaning about grammar and speech which peed me off a lot, because this is the internet, many different countries post on here, many different levels of education and many different levels of drunkeness. At the end of the day its the fish/plants/Aquariums we are on here for, so agreed with other poster grammar and spelling does not matter one bit.

Completely agree with this  , i have a Friend who is a chemist at Sussex university, a very clever person, can't spell for squat though :D

have to say i agree with this! there is a thread like this literally every other week at the moment, lets pin one in the suggestions section and then people can add to it there.

there would be a lot less arguments if people used the report button too. mods probably get sick of me hitting it every 5 seconds  but on a forum this size there's always going to be things kicking off and you can't expect the mods to be so on top of everything that they spot it all straight off, so as soon as I see something flaring up I hit the report button and the thread is bought to the attention of whichever mod is online at that time. If you feel someone is rude to you report it don't retaliate as then your just lowering yourself to they're standards. If people used the report button instead of arguing back then there would be a lot less row's and offensive or uncalled for posts could be removed immediately.
