I Have A Cunning Plan…..or I Do I?

Just a quick update....

All my fish are doing great!! No losses...they are all thriving in fact.

Their colours are amazing!!! I'm so surprised! I realise now that my rummy noses & cardinals were definitely not at their full colour potential in the 10gal tank. My cardinals actually look electric!!!

My German Blue Rams have really settled in nicely to this tank too and the female has a belly that is as pink as anything!! She's gorgeous. Before her colours were quite pale. The Male appears to be tolerating her alot more than when they were in the 10gal...so again, that's great news. There was even a display of 'gravel picking' going on which was very cute to watch!

I'm considering getting more Cardinals, but I've had such bad luck with them, that I'm afraid. I've spent a fortune trying to build up a shoal, but they all seem to die on me.

However, one difference is that my tank is now stabilizing at pH 7.2....which is more compatible for them. So I might be in with a chance... Its strange, because I believe Rummy Nose Tetra have a similar sensitivity to Cardinals, yet I've no problems keeping them.

My water remains really perfect...Bright yellow Ammonia, Sky Blue Nitrite and my Nitrate is only hitting 5ppm now.

So its all good! :good:

I might try and post a photo if my camera behaves.

Once again, thank you all so much for getting me through this!!!

Oh yeah, I'm considering one more tank mate....a male Pearl Gourami? Would he be too big though for a 20gal? The pet shop told me it would be 'fine', of course! ;)

I'm glad everything went well, Lazerus. :good:

A Pearl Gourami should be fine for your tank. They only grow to around 4" and are quite passive, other than towards other gouramis.

The only thing is that, as with all gouramis, you should avoid keeping them with fin-nipping species such as Tiger Barbs etc.

What else do you have in the tank? If it's just Rummy-Noses, Cardinals and Rams, I'd say it'll be fine.

Cheers :good:

BTT

edit: Ok, just seen your stocking list in your sig. Looks ok to me. :good:

Now...there's a few photos...my camera is so crap...the lens keeps seizing up after every few photo's...it was doing my head in. I belive my pair of Rams are still young, so I'm really looking forward to their colour developing better over the next few months.

Anyway, thats grand then BTT,
I really like the look of those Pearl Gouramis...I'd like to get a male. I must look into ways of recognizing them when they are juveniles.

I do love green tiger barbs....its a pity I can't have them.

Ps!Edited to say: you can just about see one of my little otos under the log in the last picture...his little eye is looking out! Cute!

Gosh, a real reward for all of us who've been in your threads for so long to finally see the tank and what a beautiful load of fish you've got there. I'm really jealous of your beautiful german blue rams! Oliver (my son) and I have thought from time to time about having a pair of these.. boy would that be fun. If that's a standard point and shoot little digital camera then you sure managed to get some pretty good shots there, with no reflection problems and pretty clear focus on the fish and all. I am not looking forward to someday attempting to try the camera stuff myself. Oliver's little tank is not photogenic at all. Your's looks really nice there. Agree with all the comments about the future Pearl!

That is a beautiful tank Lazerus. Congratulations on a successful set up and good luck going forward with your tank.
