Howdy Doodee!

Thanx guys!

@Wilder: Well there's probably no point going back to the same pet store. Will have to find another!
I just don't have cash for a filter at the moment. I'm struggling as it is.
So undergravel no good in your opinion? It was working fine for the first five months!

@LauraB: PHD is correct!!! LOL!

I have heard a lot of people say that they don't believe they are as effective as an internal or external, but i realy wouldn't know, i have never thought to get one, i could never understand how i could clean it :lol: There are also people who love them. Maybe if you start a new thread about undergravel filters some people could help who have them. If could be that the filter needs to be cleaned, but you would have to ask someone who has one as i dont know how to clean them.
:fun:

@Ludwig Venter: Baie dankie!! Ek bly in Pretoria!

@LauraB: Thanks! That's a good idea!

The fish are looking better. Hope they keep improving. Had a little panic this morning when the power went out. See, South Africa's been experiencing serious electricity shortages and the national electricity provider is a mess, so when the power goes out this side, it can be out for an entire day! That coupled with existing bad fish health = much fish death. Luckily it only lasted about 40 minutes! What are we all going to do when our coal sources dry up?!?!?!?

Keep doing water changes.
Good Luck.

Yay, i am glad they are looking better :good:

There are things you can do in power cuts to help your fish, If you have a heater you can just put a few blankets over the aquarium to keep it warm, But i imagine it is pretty warm in south africa :)

Also if the power is out too long like over an hour you can stir the water every 20 minutes with your finger (for 5 minutes)to create surface movement and oxygen to keep them happy until the power comes back.

It was winter in England and i had a power cut for 8 hours i panicked and wrapped the aquarium in foil (that you use to wrap food with) with blanket on top :lol: to keep the heat in, it worked and raised the temperature by 1 degree :lol: I turned the filter off and placed it in a bucket of their water.
I stirred it every 30 minutes and they were fine afterwards.

There are things you can do that don't require money. But the filter would be the biggest problem with long power cuts, they always say to turn off the filter if a long power cut is expected,if the filter sits there full of fish waste with no power it can filter bad bacteria back in to the aquarium when the power comes back on again and can cause water problems and fish illness, :S i did not explain that very well :lol: I am sure there is someone on here who can explain that better than me. But what i did above did work for me.

:fun:

I hope that helps a little for your power cut dilemmas.
