How Would Bolivian Rams Do In This Setup?

this is to minxfishy:
truckasauras told me that i could not keep a pair of german ble rams together in a 60L with corys and cardinals.
i dont disagree with what he has expirienced but what do you think about that??

my golden ballons are tank bred and are doing very well at 25-27 degrees
my bolivians are wild caught and are thriving - starting to dig holes ready for breeding at the same temp

if the tank is planted you will still lots of shrimps there's still hundreds in my tank with the rams in but the tank is quite heavilly planted so gives the shrimp babys plenty of cover

Get the rams hun - golden balloons are a beautiful fish aswell
they have coloured up so much more since these pics were taken

1st day in the tank 27th march , bit dull

4 days later
now they have settled in they are a lot more colourful - please excuse messy glass not cleaned it for a few days - kids finger prints

what my post was deleted!

i will type it again:

no offence to those that say this, but saying your rams are fine at these temps doesnt mean they are, there is nothing scientific behind what you say, where as papers documented on rams and their immune systems and how they work inside are scientific. its a shame you need a password to view them. (you have to be a student)

99% of ram keepers are oblivious as to how they work inside.

i might ask neale to back me up here.

nobody is saying you are wrong it's just people giving their experiences of keeping rams , some people having them for years at lower temps and that they are doing perfectly truck thats all :)

Hey,
Well I went and got a pair of bolivian rams yestarday, after the best efforts of my lfd to pick me out a male and a female, I think I ended up with 2 males, they knocked the crap out of each other!!

So I took the one who was doing the majority of the bullying back, do these little guys do ok on their own?

I had the same problem with my lfs but I got two females.
They also began fighting so I split them (my lfs doesn't take any fish back arggh!)

The female in a small 30l tank seems to be in a bit of a sulk.
But the one in the lovely 125l planted community tank seems very very happy within herself. She's eating well and very bright. I've found that so long as their environment is good they're happy alone, though I do plan to get her a male in the coming weeks.

this is to minxfishy:
would a pair of german blue rams( 1male and 1female )
10 cardinals
6 corys

be ok in a 60L or should i only have a female and not the male??
your help would be good. i do not have any of the fish on that list yet as i am not finished re-scaping my tank.
but i would like to know what i could have instead of mucking things up
thanks :good:

60L is a little small for a pair of rams, either both same sex or m/f pair IMO, you could have either a single male or single female, as on their own, they are peaceful enough, its only if they pair up they would cause a problem with the corydoras.

If you want corys in the 60L, stick with the smaller varieties, panda, pygmy's that way you have more space for them as they will need to be minimum of 6.

i was going to add pandas probily. so can i have 1 female ram?

Yeah sure, 1 female is fine :good:

Ensure the tank is fully cycled as rams will not tolerate any ammonia or nitrIte and try to keep nitrAtes to a minimum, at least under 40ppm, some nice planting and a cave, some rocks and you should be good to go. Make sure you acclimatise slowly to adjust the ph for them as any sudden change will not be good.

just wandering. could i just have 1male and 1female and no other fish?
or maybe something small to go with them?

if they pair up it should be okay, but still they may squabble.

if they dont pair up they will struggle for territory
