Last Tank Build: 40 Gallon Breeder With German Rams

my adult zebra lace angel hunts cardinal tetras... it leaves all the other small tetras alone... I started my last purchase of them with 8 jumbo's ( I started with a dozen normal size, and the angel just wouldn't leave them alone ) now after the jumbos, I'm down to one really big survivor... expensive fish food... I'll be moving that angel to my big tank, when I finally get around to setting it up, then will buy more cardinals... good luck with yours, but if they start disappearing one by one, you may have a culprit...

love the tank...

Yes, Angels do seem to have a particular taste for Cardinals and Neons.

40B are too small for adult male angelfishes but females stay quite a bit smaller (usually) and are more suitable for a 40B as well as less likely to eat a larger cardinal.

Well, Magnum Man, I can't believe it but I think you nailed it. I have had tons of angel fish over the years and tons of neons/cardinals, and have never had a problem with the angels eating ANY fish, much less cardinal tetras.

I went away for 2 days and all but one are GONE. Not dead (or not JUST dead)- GONE. They must have eaten them. The angels appear fat and happy, though, so ...expensive dinner...

The good news is that the hatchet fish are still there and seem to be doing well. I think they're too fast for those angels anyway...plus a little to big.

I'm still messing with the heaters- it's steady at about 81.3 or so now, need it to be a little higher, but it's getting there.

My rams ship tomorrow! Also, I ordered some pigmy cories- please tell me the angels don't eat those! :D

81.3 is too warm for pymy cory and if these are gbr rams 81.3 is fine for them but if you lower the temp for the pygmy the rams will shiver and catch cold.

While unlikely if a particularly large angelfishes decides to try to eat a pygmy cory (and yes they can get one in their mouth) the cory will almost certainly release its spikes causing both fishes to die. There are pictures on hte internet of such incidents if curious.
