How Would Bolivian Rams Do In This Setup?

Yeah sure, 1 female is fine :good:

Ensure the tank is fully cycled as rams will not tolerate any ammonia or nitrIte and try to keep nitrAtes to a minimum, at least under 40ppm, some nice planting and a cave, some rocks and you should be good to go. Make sure you acclimatise slowly to adjust the ph for them as any sudden change will not be good.
just wandering. could i just have 1male and 1female and no other fish?
or maybe something small to go with them?
if they pair up it should be okay, but still they may squabble.

if they dont pair up they will struggle for territory
so iff i added an already proven pair they should be ok?
they might be okay, but i wouldnt try it.

Gotta say even a proven pair, I agree with Truck, its too small a tank, they would still have their moments, plus you have to allow for any babies that come along, stick with one (of either sex) for now.

Also, just because someone sells a proven breeding pair, doesnt mean they will breed in your tank, water conditions etc.

thanks :good:
i think i will just go with one then i will make an excuse in a couple of months after adding the 1 female that it is lonely so she will let me get a bigger tank( hopefully between 20 and 30 gal! :good: ) so i can then get a male! :D :P :D :P
i think it is a good plan!! :P

Just remember, in the LFS its hard to tell the sex, although usually you can make out a nice pink belly on the females :good:

the lfs i get my fish from are all healthy and have nothing wrong with them and if any of my fish die they give me a refund for them if they die within 48 hours sooo... there a good lfs. :good:
they had some in there the other day and you could just make out the pinker bellies on the females :P
cant wait to do my tank!!
just another quick question:
my filter in the tank is on its way out  i was thinking of getting this filter:
filter
if i add it to the tank while my other one is running. do i need the new one and the old one on at the same time or should i set up the new one in a different tank to build up bacteria till it is ready to add to the tank??

Is the old filter cycled? If so, take out the filter media and place it in the new filter, if its not cycled, or half cycled, add both filters and continue to run both for 4 weeks, then remove the old filter.

I personally would get a filter with a higher turnover, as that will only just cope with a 60L tank, but thats just me, otherwise it looks fine.

the old one has been cycled for ages as there are fish in the tank. i am taking the fish back to one of my lfs near me as i want to start over with my tank. the only thing i will be keeping is my 2 amano shrimp as i have had the for nearly 2 years and i love them.!! if i wil be keeping them in the tank should put the new filter in the other tank which is empty and feed it amonia to build up bacteria then when it is strong enough, add it to the tank and take the old one out?

Im getting confused here, please clarify for me.

The old filter is it in the tank you intend to put the rams into? If so, then just trf the old media from it, directly into the new filter or if you dont want to do that because the media is old and almost had it, then run the new filter with the new media in it, along side the old filter for about 4 weeks, which will give it time to build up the bacteria it needs to deal with the waste, ensuring no spike when you remove the old.

the new filter is not the same type of filter as the old one.
the old one is the one the tank came with.
but it is on its way out so i wanted to get a new filter and i was asking if i should put the new one in the tank or put it in a diferent tank with some of the aquarium water in to build up bacteria.
then move it over when done but u have just told me to put it the tank with the old one.
i know what to do know thanks :good:

Ah ok, yeah you need to add it to the tank with the existing filter and the fish to build up bacteria, putting it in some tank water on its own wont work, unless you want to add ammonia and do a fishless cycle on it, but thats pretty pointless as it takes just as long as putting it in the tank with the fish.

thanks i will put it in the tank with the old filter and leave it in there for a month before i take the old one out. thanks for the help :good: :good:
