If you've got a planted tank then then you don't want much as the air will drive off the CO2 that the plants need.
If you are cycling the tank then you can't have too much as the beneficial bacteria need O2 to thrive and grow.
As long as there's a decent amount of water movement at the surface that will promote sufficient gaseous exchange for most tanks.
Bubbling air thro water doesn't in itself increase the O2 in the water - it's the movement at the surface that does it.
