High Ph

High guys,

I have a 125lt tall tank set up know for about 8 weeks, I have introduced the fish weekly after initial set up of a couple of weeks with 6 x phantom tetra's the first week, at this time the ph in the tank was about 6.4 - 6.6 I was told to raise the ph to about 7.0 which I did with ph up and some shells the second fish to move in were 6 x silver hatchet fish, I since have added 2 x bristle nose and 3 x spotted cory's. my ph is now 7.2 - 7.4 and from the tap is about 7.6 my tropical fish shop are now telling me that for the next set of fish that I want to add (golden rams x two or 3 x borrelli rams) my ph is now to high.

Firstly how can I now bring my ph down

and second would this be the limit for the size of tank demisions 24" long by 15" wide by 24" deep.

7.6 should be fine, but i am no expert. Usually we try to tell people that a steady pH is more important than what that particular fish needs. Fish can tolerate a wide range of pH's. But i dont know if rams are very sensitive about pH. Someone else will let you know though.

i keep rams at a pH of 7.9 and they have been fine, i have lost 2 to disease but the others are ok i was told rams prefer a lower pH but not essential, they show better colouring in a more lower pH apparently but mine are still very colourfull. (was told that by a decent lfs so if wrong then im sure someone will correct me). there are a lot of stories of them not lasting for long in fact i think there was a recent topic on this.... i have had mine about 5 months now but people were saying that they only lasted a few weeks and others said over a year so your guess is as good as mine!!!!!!!!! they are lovely fish but do get very defensive, especially at feeding time. mine guard the catfish tablets and if anything goes anywhere near them they get a nip. incase you didnt know the female will have a red/purple belly, i would advise to not get all males. hope this helps .

has the tank been cycled before adding the fish?

To ease your mind...my brother keeps a pair of rams with a pH of 8.2

You have room for the rams but not much more IMO. Your tank is a nice size but each of the fish that you already have will grow larger than they started in the fish shop so don't try to judge by how things look today.
