I'm getting a 110gallon tank.
I want to make it into a really beautiful showroom type tank ( a smaller version )

I was wondering whats better sand or gravel , why?

And can people please suggest fish for me to put in it?
Preferably away from tetras, shrimps or plecos.
Also should i plant it?

Thanks :)

Hi there welcome :) - 110 gallons is a very nice big tank what dimensions is it? I would suggest sand substrate as there are more fish that need a sand substrate where as I struggle to think of a fish that needs a gravel substrate. When you say no plecs have you looked at all the various L numbers that are available a lot of them are stunning fish!! Check out planetcatfish.com for pictures.

You mentioned fish you dont like but what about fish you do like then we can help you build a community around them.

If it was my 110 gal tank I would be going for SA cichlids personally. Maybe a group of earth eaters to work around like the red head tajous (sp) Maybe some silver dollars as dithers and a group of the smaller species of pictus cats or maybe hoplo cats.

As for planting I would go real most large tanks have good lighting systems so you will be able to keep lots of the simple plants in there no problems.

Rounded off the tank is 4x2x2.
I was looking for species of catfish to put in but I have read that catfish aren't really compatible. I said no pleco's for the time being because there are two small spotted bristle nose's that I am considering moving into the tank. I think they would enjoy it more than a 2ft tank. I also have the option to move a red tailed shark over that is only a month or two old currently 1".

I want a really nice looking fish tank like ones I've seen on youtube, the sand in the tanks makes it look stunning. I have about £500 to spend solely on the tank and fish. That is 500 with the tank already paid for and heater the filter will have been paid for then too.

Thanks :)

Ah right I see so so far the planned stock includes the spotted BNs? When you say the fish on youtube which ones do you mean exactly? Can you link us a video please :D

As for other cat fish to look at how about some of the synos not all will be suitable for your 4ft tank but some will. Or like I mentioned the hoplo and I think still the pictus would be okay in there.

There are more better videos but I havent saved them to history or my youtube favourites.
Ill check out the fish you mentioned now :)

Also the plecos are in a 2ft tank atm with a 1" red tailed shark and a 6" common pleco. They can be moved over if not they can stay in that tank ( Both tanks will be kept in top shape and remodelled and have more plants ornaments etc placed in )
