Greetings From Finland!

Hello everybody!
I'm new to tropical fish forums and I'd like to introduce myself. Firstly I must say that my native language isn't English, so I'm sorry if there appears some grammatic mistakes or mistakes in spelling. I'm trying hard to study English and I'd like to improve my English skills too.

I'm 18-years-old girl and I'm stydying my last year in senior high school.
Besides learning more English I'm interested in aquariums. I have only 80 litres fish tank at home and some fishes like Trigonostigma espei and Corydoras habrosus there (I have no idea what those species are in English, but maybe you will tell that to me.)

If you have any questions for me, I'll answer with pleasure!

We Finns are usually so shy and sometimes it's just so hard to start to use the language we actually can speak (or write) fairly well. But I think that you can't learn if you don't even try to!

I have been discussing on the Finnis fish forums and now I think that it's nice to get this hobby international. Or something like that...

How are you preparing for the Chistmas? How about your aquariums? Are the fish going to get some presents (maybe a new plant or two?)

I just love to be here in Finland at Christmas. Now it's snowy but not very cold. 2 degrees of frost (Celsius). The snow makes it feel as Christmas.

I would love to see a white Christmas once. Here in the US Southeast (North Carolina), it never gets cold enough for snow this time of year although we have had freezing rain all day today (temp been about 30 to 34 degrees for 2 days now). Causing real problems in some areas with broken trees and powerlines from all the ice.

As for my tanks, nothing out of the ordinary for Christmas. Fish will probably get a water change for Christmas since it is on Sunday (normal W/C day anyway).

You hit it on the nose when you said an international forum. That's what I love about TFF. You get to hear about how people do things in all parts of the world.

We got more snow last night! It seems to be coming very white Christmas!

My fish are going to get a water change for Christmas too. Maybe some extra delicatesses too like blood worms and stuff. They are going to dribble... By the way, we Finns are having Christmas earlier than you in the US, I think... We start to feast on the Saturday 24th December. In the morning my family is goig to visit the elders and then we come back home and start the eating. We have kind of odd Christmas foods, as porridge. In some parts of the world, rice porridge is only they can have and in Finland it's one of our special foods... But it's good with the thickened fruit juice made of plums. Well, the porridge comes from the old times and thats a tradition. And that's enough of my porridge stories.

My family has 2 partys usually, one christmas eve, one christmas afternoon.

My fish'll get a water change and a re-decorating maybe, as alot of my family will be seeing my fish tanks..hmhm.

We generally have our big family dinner on Christmas Eve and then Christmas day is kind of a lazy day. We sit around and watch A Christmas Story on TBS all day.

And TBS is a TV-channel?

Christmas day is here also a day when everybody is just lying and eating what have been left from the dinner of day before. I just somehow think that at Christmas day the Christmas is practically over. The presents we get or give at Christmas eve, so at Christmas day there is nothing left to wait anymore.

But I think that Finland is the real country of Cristmas, because even the Santa Claus lives here!

It would be nice to get to know you too! And know something about your fish tanks and so on...

I have only one aquarium. 89 litres, that's about 23 gallons (I guess...) I'll try to find some pics of it. I hope that one day I'll have enough money to get new and bigger tanks. This is so wonderful hobby. When you get to the start, there is no way to get it stop... You will always want to have more fish and more exotic species and there's always a biothope (If that's the right word in English ) left which you haven't yet built..

That is correct. It has become a tradition. They show it for 24 straight hours on Christmas day. Have you ever seen the movie?

Is that where the Air Force paid the guy whose reindeer died of a heart attack after the fighter jets flew over too low and scared the deer to death, literally. I think that was in Denmark actually. I'll have to see if I can find it on the net again.

I guess I've seen the movie. But I'm not sure. Is that the movie where is a good fairy and a mean person, no I can't remember.

I think that in Finlad the reindeer keepers should be affraid of the wolves, more than airplanes But you never know...

Here are some pics of my tank. They are not very good, but atleast there is something to look at. From my pictures you can see how fast swimmers the Trigonostigma espeis are. There are just stripes in some pictures.

The link works. Nice Tank!!!. I've never seen those rasboras around here, only harlequins. Just FYI, the movie is about a kid that wants a BB gun for Christmas.

In my tank there aren't much plants and that's because poor students don't have enough money to buy everything they want..

Trigonostigma espei is a nice and calm fish. It's very vivid and likes to swim in crowd (What is a swarm when you are talking about fish?). They are like Harlequin Rasboras but smaller, so you can put bigger swarms in smaller tanks also. These rasboras are good company for bettas, because they won't bite its tail.

Maybe I'll get new plants after Christmas.
