Atm I'm just waiting to be paid so I can re-order some shrimp after my massive shrimp disaster. My poor bank balance...I really coulda done without basically pouring £200 down the plug hole...almost literally.

Anyways, I'm finding it so so hard to stop myself from buying fish. Atm I'm stuck between wanting a pair of german blue rams or a pair of honey gouramis.

Plus point of the honeys is that I don't need a new tank cause they're happy at 25C and will leave my shrimp alone so can go in the 60l, one in each side.
Negatives - can't really find any other than they'll need bagging up at some point to move to uni with me...this is true of any fish though

Plus point of GBR is... well they're GBRs
Negatives - Would need to get them there own tank and am limited on space until I move into the uni house however there is the issue again when I move back home. And it means another tank to move...

Oh woe is me

Just to add I have all the equipment neccesary to breed either of the above fish too... so breeding them isn't out of the question as I can raise the fry over the year and sell/give them away before I come home. And personally I think little baby GBRs would be the most adorable little things ever. But then I can imagine baby honeys are quite sweet too.

And there just happens to be an arcadia arc 35l around 5miles from my house for sale for £10... no light which is a bit annoying...but still...I reckon a pair of GBRs with no other fish might fit quite nicely in there (if they spawned any fry would be removed pretty much as soon as they were free swimming with parents) and if they were particularly prolific I'd just remove eggs as they were laid.

You should get seasonal killi fish I bet they would suit your nomadic lifestyle perfectly haha. But yeah I know the feeling went to get some stress coat today and the LFS has a pair of adult blue acaras - first time I have ever seen them and my god just incredible and that was in shop tanks! But yeah I know the feeling very very well haha

You're still looking at a year for the annual killifish...so probabaly longer than the term dates...
My boyfriend has been quite nice in that he says he'll move my tanks for me  not quite sure what he's after but I kept saying how I couldn't get anymore cause I have to move them and I don't want to have to rely on him to help me.

I think he genuinely understands how much I miss fish lol.

I like my shrimp but fish are just so much more interactive...

What do you think to 2 GBR's in an arcadia arc 35l, it's not as if I'm new to fish keeping and having done the maths they'd have about 7 x their body length in any direction which seems quite fair floorspace wise and they wouldn't be sharing that with any other fish...

The honeys however are much more simple cause they can just move into the 60l with the shrimp...

Yeah I googled the last bit of the url and found it. They look great in that tank...
I think I may aswell just resign to the fact I will be getting fish at some point. Just gotta keep my eye out for the right set-up...cause a 40cm full set-up for £40 isn't good enough  lol.
Joking...it is. But as I shouldn't be getting another tank anyways I'm going to just keep my eye out for a bargain...if I find one then so be it... it's fate :D

Want to help me stock my imaginary tank that isn't really imaginary cause I know deep down I'm going to get it?

http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail59_182624.php what about this one? Bargain for what it is :hey: thats the one I want anyway haha

But yeah course Ill help you stock it haha which tank are you going for what capasity?

I'm sure I'll be able to find a nook for it to fit in... lol.

I'm thinking if I do get one it'll be around the 40 x 30 x 30cm or 30 x 30 x 30cm so basically somewhere from 30-40l. I like fish with 'personalities' hence why I like cichlids. But I'm open to anything and would keep my eye out for a tank that suited them and wouldn't obviously decorate around them.

For the record I do have an aqua 40 going spare at the mo, it's very much a cube which is annoying in respect to the size of fish it limits to. But you could always suggest fish for that?

*mumbles something about being able to have the aqua 40 up and running by the weekend if I could find reasonable stock for it*

Haha, I actually thought to myself when you said you were only keeping the shrimp that it won't last  If your boyfriends offering I don't see the harm in him moving the fish to your uni house, it wouldn't be that much effort surely!

what about these :p

Shush with you're future seeing abilities...

I like the look of them, I've been doing some browsing and there are quite a few apistos that max out at 4cm that I'd be happy to put in a 30cm x 30cm footprint tank so there are quite a few possibilities there.

Anymore ideas? I was debating sparkling gouramis, they're very timid but in such a small tank... shouldn't be a problem.

I quite like Wills killi idea. You could hatch some whilst you're still home?

Is the Aqua 40 about 5 gallons? If so best kind of fish with personality for those are badis fish with shrimp I reckon there are quite a few varieties which you dont find in shops but are possible to find or order if you have a look at their section on seriously fish - I think there are a few at wildwoods at the moment and I think I have seen them at fish inc but cant remember when.

But if your going to be getting a bigger tank around 15 gallons your options are much better and I think it would be better to wait rather than rush.

You have to get German Blue Rams.
They are the best fish (im my opinion), there easy to breed, fry our oh-s-- cute, and don't get that much bigger then Honeys. I think a cool thing about GBR, is that they stay beutiful all year around, not just in breeding season like Honeys. They give you something awsome to look at!
Plus, if you're boy friend says he will help, then go for it! If you miss fish, get some and enjoy it.
Hey- Have you ever thought of getting German Blue Rams, andd Honey 's?  -_- :sly: :grr: :S

The aqua 40 is 28l which is just over 7gal and has a footprint of 30 x 30cm

Oh n I'm not rushing lol. Just saying that if I did use the aqua 40 then I could in theory have it up n running by the weekend. Not that I plan to use it or that I WILL have it up n running by the weekend!

Tbh I'm happy not using the aqua 40 as I like to have a back up tank ready for the unforseen. Although I have plenty of spare equipment and plastic storage tubs so it's not the be all n end all if I had it up n running.

haha okay then :) But yeah as always bigger is better with tanks for cichlids :)

I would really consider some of the dwarf checkerboards I think they are really interesting or nannacaras are always cool :)

I'd pref like a 40l long as it'd be a very managable size and also perfect for many of the dwarf cichlids. I need to keep my eye out I suppose, annoyingly alot of the 30-40l are cubes...it's quite annoying to be honest. I mean the people that actually want cubes are people like angel + discus keepers...but you don't commonly find cubes of a decent size for fish like that
See as I have all the equipment (bar a light), a basic clearseal would be fine, so I will just keep my eye out. Keep throwing ideas at me. I definitely like the checkerboards, are they 1m : 2 or more f?
I also like the look of the panda apisto's. I've always liked them to be honest.

I believe the checker boards are trios like you said but a bit of research to clarfiy. Yeah the long tanks sound like a good idea. Main species you should try and find would be smaller apistos, laetacaras, nannacaras, dwarf checkerboards.

oooo look wildwood has the checkerboards in stock! http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/stores_products.asp?store=54&type=Fish&cat=108 :D pygmy pencil fish or ember tetras to finnish the tank off ftw :)
