Feeding is something that is varied through out the forum... Some people feed twice a day, others once a day, some feed every other day. Fish don't need to feed every day and they can go without food for a week or two if needed to.

I have to laugh as now whenever I go near my tank the mollies are begging for food swimming up and down where I am then when I leave again they are off to scavenge, nothing goes to waste with those guys they even pick the substrate dry!!!!

Amazingly so... They do such a good impression of starving fish... Think I will get three more to have 6 I love watching the mollies they rock!!!

This feeding question is a tough one. Although many say that fish can go without food for days or a week or more, that could be said about humans too!
In nature, fish forage for food most of the day, every day. Some days are better than others. Based on this, one might conclude that feeding small(er) amounts twice a day is better than a larger amount once a day. I'm not sure that withholding food for a day or more is really good for them.

Missing a day enables the fish gut to more or less empty itself, which is a good thing. It cuts down on constipation and symptoms caused by overfeeding. Also helps with water quality too.

I notice that some fish will not like not being fed.
My harlequins will start to attack each other if not fed and might even resort to cannabalism if left for long enough.
On the other hand some fish will happily fast, corys spend half their day sitting on the substrate and not moving, so even though they constantly look for food, they dont NEED as much of it.
