External Or Internal?

Please take time to participate in my poll. im setting up a 2ft fish tank and just wondering if i should you my canister filter(1200ph) or will the internal(1500lph)with a sponge filter do the job.

i dont know what fish im having as yet.

External filter for me everytime, and if your funds allow external heater for a clutter free tank

thanks mate just wondering why? what about if i did this, put a few noodles into a internal filter?? would that work?

External for me too Easy to maintain

You can put noodles in an internal and it would work
But it's easier with an external usually more area for media and better flow

External filters are so much better, they are easier to maintain and usually a lot larger therefore more filter media and more efficient

Also makes your tank look less cluttered, and more space for fish to swim about

External for me as well i love my Aquamanta efx200 so easy to clean and does such a great job and don`t take tank space up

after having both, the external gets my vote everytime. much easier to clean, m uch easier for water changes, more space for media, and i dont have to look at it!

I vote external aswell, So much better, I had a Fluval U4 on my little 65litre it kept the water clear but nothig like my external does on my bigger tanks, Crystal clear water and easy to maintain.

Appreciate that your tank is fairly small so you could be forgiven in thinking that why would you need an external filter but think about it? Why take up precious room with an ugly filter when you can have it outside the tank with just a discrete pair of pipes inside the tank?

The benefit of of an external over an internal such as easily maintainable, capacity of filtration and custom-ability of media make them the obvious choice in my book

Fluval 405's are good but have been known to leak (as mine did). Iv had several fluval filters including an fx5, 406, 405, 306 and 205. Iv also had an "all pond solutions" EF2000+ which is a good filter for those on a tight budget and only looking for a "decent" flow rate as the drop in flow is horrendous on them and even though they are stated to give you 2000LPH they actually push out less than half of that meaning it was only just able to cope on my 3ft 180 litre tank.

If you have a little more to spend then I'd go for an external tetratec filter. I have now got 2 x tetratec ex1200's on my 5ft tank which is 450 litres and they are the best filters iv had. Well built, very good performance, easy to maintain, quiet, nice looking, cheap to buy, reliable and excellent customer care team/after care.

On a 2ft tank you would be fine with an ex700 but more filtration is better so you may want the ex1200 which will give you 1200LPH (around 950LPH with media).. All filters drop in flow to what is stated by the manufacturer when you take the media into account. The stated LPH is what you get if there was no media inside the filter.

Depending on where you live you may not be able to get a tetratec... In this case look for a marineland c series filter.. They are basically the same.

Yer in australia, brisbane, i have a fluval 405 but low on money, the only tpoblem is it has a crack on the inside were u put all your media and just wondering would sikaflex 291 seal it up and is it fish tank safe???

Sorry I can't answer that for you as I'm unsure but if you are able to fix it then it will be more than enough for a 2ft tank
