Hi everyone,

I'm starting my first ever tropical fish tank. Andin our current quarantine situation I'm limited to what I can order online. I ordered this piece of bogwood with java fern already attached to it. But it seems to be COVERED in these white spots which I can only assume are eggs? Anyone know what they are and how I can get rid of them?

They are the eggs of nerite snails. They are very difficult to remove from wood - I have tried and ended up just scraping the surface off the wood. The good news is that they won't hatch so you won't be over run with snails. They need to be in salt water to hatch. The bad news is unless you can manage to get them off, you'll have spotty wood.

That's a relief, thank you!!! I've managed to scrape the majority of them off but they're in all the nooks and crannys which I can't reach. But as long as they don't hatch I'm okay with them there. Thanks a lot!
