I have 2 pices of bogwood in my small tank, and (until recently) had a rock in there too.

I removed the rock as I suspected it was lowering my PH

I tested today (3 days after a 50% waterchange) and the P.H has dropped from 7.0/7.5 to 6.5

is it the bogwood?

could be, bogwood is known to lower pH, doesn't in every case but it's certainly possible.

thnx MW (bloody quick, too!)

I realise I have alot of bogwood in there for the amount of water the tank holds, I'll do the vinegar test on the rock, and if that passes I'll put that back in and move the bogwood to my main tank.

don't think the vinegar thing works on bogwood.

take it out put it in a bucket of water, test the water before adding the wood, then over the next few days and see what happens.

lol I meant the vinegar test on the rock I removed :p

The vinegar test is a gross check for a rock that would quickly raise pH. I have had many pass that test that still raised pH but did it more slowly. The idea to check water with and without the rock in it over a few days will tell you a lot more about its effects on water.

yeah, id does lower the pH, i use it for keeping my discus tank the right conditions.
