Does anyone actaully have a recovery tank?

Every serious aquarist worth his/her salt should have a hospital tank for isolation purposes. It doesen't have to be very large either.

I sometimes do but since it's so rare I get fish, I don't usually have one set up. I have a makeshift orange tub I sometimes use to quarantine new fish but at the moment it's used for storing spare parts.

Yep, I do. I always have a 10 gallon set up to use as a hospital tank, and I use it as a quarantine tank too. Thankfully I've never had a sick fish at the same time I was quarantining a fish...but I'm considering getting another just in case.

It's very useful though.

Edit: Forgot to add, I keep the filters running in my cycled tanks, and some of the decorations too. Then I just stick them in, and I have a cycled tank for the sick fish, or the fish that needs qurantining. :)

We have a 3gal that is normally setup. No one in it now though as the betta with fin rot is looking good back in the usual tank :)

I'll empty the tank an pack the heater - but the filter will be put in a different tank to keep it 'alive'

I have a few 10g tanks for either new fish to be quarantined in, or sick fish to be healed/separated in. IMO, every aqarist should have a spare tank ready for new fish or sick ones ;)

Running a tank with no fish & a filter gives you an uncycled tank. Put anything but some hardy livebearers or danios in there & you will probably have problems.

I keep extra filters running on most all of my tanks, and have an extra 28, 20, & a couple of 10's empty, along with spare heaters. I could set one of these up in 20 minuites.

I also keep a 10 with chlorinated water,an airstone, & a heater at the same temp as the rest of my tanks. If anything needs immediate attention, or I get a phone call at work from a family member, a squirt of dechlor & toss in the fish.

I have the 10gal and the 5gal which can be used as quar/sick tanks. At the moment I have no sick fish so the 5gal is empty however the 10gal is currently housing 3 guppies, a swordy and a platy (new fish).....they are soon to be moved to make way for my pregnant swordy girl (due any day now)....

The filters are the same as 3 of my other filters so all I do is cut down the filter media slightly and move it across to the quar/sick tank.

Yes I do - but it's not as such a tank that's ready and waiting. It's an empty tank with filter full time running in mature tank. What's the point of running a filter in an empty tank with no bacteria to keep it going ? that's like an uncycled tank.
And I have a spare heater.
A must have and very useful to have a quarantine / hospital tank.

I have two  Gives some flexibility with quarantine, sick and recovery stages. Besides I always seem to get two different problems at once and mixing meds is a BAD plan! Ones a pretty teeny 25litre and ones a 60 litre I think.

They also come into service as "which one of you is it thats picking on everybody" diagnosis tanks and "ah I feel sorry for the molly fry that have actually managed to survive a couple of days in the main tank lets give em half a chance" tank :D

They don't run all the time - if I need one I half and half the water with tank/fresh - grab a bit of gravel or sponge as bacteria 'seed' and start it up.

How long does a running tank with everything in it but fish, that has had fish, stay cycled. I've been told to add a little pinch of fish food. No good huh?
:stupid:

I keep at least one extra running. Usually it doesn't stay empty long, because it is also a quarantine.

i have a 25 gal :)

I go by the rule that the hospital tank should be big enough to hold your biggest fish
