ok as mentioned before i set up a 500L community tank last week, transfered the fish from my 200L straight in (it was cycled with mature media) now i thought it was time to start slowly adding some of my guppys in by now.

so last night i selected 6 (2males 4 females) and transferred them over to the big tank. within a split second a killifish had one of the large males by the tail and tried devouring him (this guppy was twice the size of the killi!) i quickly scooped him out and pulled the guppy from his mouth, put killi back in the main tank and guppy back to the guppy tank. on returning to the main tank i see a juvi angel attacking the female guppys and the zebra danios chasing the other guppys and nipping the hell out of them. i managed t retrieve the rest of the guppys out of their before any deaths occured but now im wondering why the fish went so mental? i thought they would get on with guppys??

im worried now they will try to attack any new fish i try to add to the community. this sunday i go to pick up an order from my lfs of new fish but am wondering should i bother??

The guppies tails must have been too much of a temptation, what fish are you looking to add? Might be wise to add some non fancy fish to start with then reintroduce a couple of guppies.

Don't know about the others, but Angel fish are notorious fin-nippers/shredders. Personally, I definitely wouldn't have put guppies in with Angel fish. Anything with fancy finnage is going to be a target for them.

yup not up on killies myself but angels and guppies are a no-no as a fish combination.

if you experience agression when adding new fish to a tank then re-arrange the tank and then add the fish back in, it gets rid of any claimed territories and effectively gives all the fish a level playing field when they first go in.
