I started my tropical fish last August and started off with 48 fish, but what I was not told was that guppy’s have live babies, at first I thought it was amazing but was told that the badly fish would eat the fry but that has not happened once and now I have around 150/170 now so I don’t understand why my babies don’t get eaten and now due to the volume of fish, I need to get a larger tank, so if any out there wants to bring baby fish in just buy some guppy’s and feed them on bug bits crushed and tropical fish flakes all crushed together

At least you know your water conditions are good enough to induce breeding. By the way they will produce fry that live even without feeding them crushed food, they will find bits of food throughout the tank.

Yea of course I do a water change every 3 weeks and I’ve always fed bug bites and crushed flake food since I first got them, but was told the adult fish will eat the fry but that has not ever happened and u was also told that I can only have 64 fish in a 64 litre tank but they are thriving but I am getting a 124 litre tank soon as once they get older and bigger it would be a bit tight n there but loving g my fish my babies love watching them at night as they drinking their night time milk, so it’s all good and it just shows that the fish don’t need to be separated again like I was told but one year in and couldn’t be better

Sounds like you are heading towards MTS, Multiple Tank Syndrome, I had a minor bout started with Angelfish fry (6 aquariums), and it has taken me a few years to get back to one tank only. Some people have 10s, possibly close to 100? fish tanks, too many for me. My fish still breed but I let the tank citizens deal with them now. Your current path is unsustainable over the long term unless you have some way of dealing with all the fry you will be getting. This sounds horrible but reducing your feeding might encourage more predation of the fry.

Note some people consider MTS as a badge of honor.

You have fish that will predate guppy fry, and in your video, I just don't see the numbers you speak of. You've bought a bunch of tetras and have a bunch of guppies, but the tetras should pick off any new guppy fry.

It is interesting - though not totally relevant. Baby guppies hide up while baby swordtails hide low. For swordtail if you have large stones the frys will dart down between them frustrating the parents chasing them and if you have a good plant layer at the top the guppy frys will do the same thing. The things we learn but no one ever thinks about....

You have fish that will predate guppy fry, and in your video, I just don't see the numbers you speak of. You've bought a bunch of tetras and have a bunch of guppies, but the tetras should pick off any new guppy fry.

Yea well I know how many fish are in my tank and when the guppy’s have babies it’s normally around 10 at a time, I’m doing a water change today so my tank will be clear blue again and then maybe you will see how many fish are really in there and as for the Tetris eating the fry they simply don’t maybe it’s because they are well fed and cared for but what do I know I’m a newbie only had them for a year now first time ever but like I say try and look for all the tiny guppy’s then the bigger tiny guppy’s then the small guppy’s I do another video now so you can see the tiny fresh new born guppy’s

My baby guppy’s seem to hide low as they seem to stay at the. bottom of the tank under the plants at first recess amazed but now it’s every week now

Yea it’s amazing we love it, we had two doggies for 16 years and sadly when they passed it broke our hearts so my son got us our tank and since then it’s been so relaxing watching our fish at night
