I took down my 300g tank about 5 years ago and i kept all the rock in the garage in a closed container. I started a tank up today and im ready to add the rock and I was just curious what route i should take in cleaning the rock to ensure it cycles properly and what not. So far I boiled the rock for about 20-25 mins at a hard boil. They are currently soaking and I just wanted to double check if that will suffice for adding them in. thanks all.

I also forgot to mention that this rock will be my base as I will be adding live rock on top of it. Dunno if that would make a difference in cleaning or not.

This should easily kill ALL living organisms on or in the rock, if not already dead for sitting that long... You should be just fine as long as you cycle it properly, water change and allow the pH to balance out. This should do very well as "dead rock" and will be great once seeded with some new live rock.

Thank you very much for the reply. The tank is doing great and did my first water change today. Everything is going smoothly and in a couple of days i'll be picking up a few snails/crabs
