Looks like mum is returning to her paler colours now...very active tiddlers! When do you have to think about taking the babies out; I assume that the parents will start to lose interest as time goes on, and you will have to remove one from the other? Great video; they must be a constant distration as you surf the net!!

I'm going to try and sell them, and what I cannot find homes for, my lfs will take them for store credit....although i would prefer them not go to the lfs lol

Weekly update. The fry continue to grow and eat....and grow and eat. Th parents have calmed down a lot, even though Jack gets in mood where he wants to eat me. Overall, I think things are going well.

I know! I'm loving it! They have really started to come into their own as far as personality. THey also now recognize me as the holder of BBS and when its feeding time, I have 200 pairs of eyes looking at me, waiting.. its so funny

I read as much as I could on this thread, it's a long one! But how old are your fry? I am asking because I gad JD fry mid march and they are alot bigger than yours are. I separated mine from parents at about 3 weeks out of fear they would eat them. I know when they spawn again they would turn on them so I moved em while it was safe. The babies are in a 40 tank... I have about 60 survivors! My parents however just had MORE fry a few days ago! I had no idea, but they are beginning to jump around a bit so my guess is they are about 4 days or so. I didn't even know they were spawning.

I now have to find a temporary grow out tank for them because they can't stay in either tank. Eventually I can put them in with the other babies, but not yet. Mthey will eat em there is that much size difference.

I will share pics with you later! How old are your fry tho and are you worried about them spawning again?

My fry are pushing three weeks old. I'm not worried about them spawning again right now. As far as I know, they will not spawn while they are rearing young. Within the next few weks, I will be moving the fry to a 75g growout tank until they are ready to go to new homes. Once I move the fry, I am sure the parents will spawn again. This is their third spawn, and first surviving one. So far, as from I can tell, all have survived. I have yet to find any dead babies in the tank and I think I have close to 200 babies.

As far as the parents eating the fry, I really do not think you have to worry about that. Jack Dempseys are known to be awesome parents, as with most cichlids. If the parents are the only other fish in the tank, you probably do not need to worry. Jacks are very over protective of their young from anything and everything, including you. My male has bitten me quite a few times while i was cleaning the tank and what not. He thought I was going to get his kids!

If you go out and get fish to breed, be aware! It's time consuming!!! But its so reqarding. To be honest. I wasn't trying to breed. Just happened to have a pair and not know it till they spawned one day. When I saw them original wrigglers, I knew I had to raise em. Too bad it took three spawns to get survivors
