Bored With 30 Gallon Tank Need Some Ideas!

Currently have had my 30 gallon tank for a year or so. For the past few months I have been super busy and have only had my two angle fish in there and one of my first tetras I got for my tank (some how he is still kickin)... anyway one of my angels  died (he was blind and looked miserable so it was for the best I think). So right now in the tank there are only two of them and its pretty boring. I want some ideas on some new tank mates and I need an algae eater or eaters too! I also love the idea of a planted tank and have looked into it a fair amount but was wondering how much (about) that will cost to initially set up and then also how much it will cost to upkeep it as well. Thanks for all the advice!

What are the dimensions of the tank, is your water hard or soft and what species is the tetra?

Have you got any photos of your tank? I have planted setups in all my tanks which are thriving.  I use nerite snails to keep algae at bay (need to occasionally more thoroughly clean).  I would think around £50 to £75 (sorry just realised you are in US - assuming prices are similar...circa $100) would get you a good new start.

I will have to take some measurements when I get home and then can throw up a pic and tests my water too so I can give you up to date results!
