I ordered some sumatran wood and a java fern plant the other day and today they arrived.

To try to kill any snail/snail eggs etc, I soaked the plant in a 1:20 bleach solution for around 25-30 minutes (thing I've read that somewhere before) then put it into the dechlorinating solution the wood was also soaking in (a little irrelevant, but thought I'd add that, to my delight the wood seems to be sinking straight away :D).

Is this OK? How long will it need soaking in the dechlorinator for to eliminate the bleach? Will the wood soak up any of the bleach?

Never done this before - don't want things to go horribly wrong!

Thanks

Add dechlorinator at a high dose, then rinse with fresh water. If you can still smell chlorine, repeat until you can't.

Thanks for that. There is currently far too much dechlorinator in there (probably enough for 60-70L easily, but there's only around 9L of water), so I've got that. I'll get rinsing! ;)
