Before I Seriously Damage A £100 Brand New Filter

Further to a previous post today regarding my brand spanking new eheim 2217 plus filter and its noise and then subsequent quietness, it is now horrendous again, the noise is just ridiculous, why is it doing this.

I tried to take it apart, again, to see if Id put it together wrong, which was a nightmare, its so vacuumed on, we couldnt get it off, took forever, then we had to take the top of the lid off and pull up from what I assume is the motor.

Took the impellor cover off, but thats as far into the impellor and its workings I can get, how do you get to clean it?

Anyway put it back together, turned it back on, have shaken and shaken it until no more air is being released and its still noisy. This is nuts, 'buy eheim the most quiet filter you can buy', my bum, never heard anything like this, even my fluval was quieter than this!

Im ranting, Im very annoyed and I want this thing to be quiet before it keeps the whole household awake!!!

HELP pretty please with sugar on top.

give it a few taps, and leave it running, it WILL quieten down.

Also when you get a new filter - They all seem to be noisey, and they do quiten down but also you get more used to the noise so it seems to be quiter once your used to it when its not .

Its pushing water round like nobodies business, the fish are lining up to take it in turns to swim 'upstream' :lol:

least you still have your sense of humour, its horrible when you get some thing new escpecially a filter that reqires setting up and putting in place and it goes wrong.. i really hope itll be sorted by the time you read this

Sorry I am lost as this is on 2 threads ?, am i wrong ? did you put the smaller pipe to the inlet and the larger to the outlet ?. If so maybe its emptying water faster than its getting it in ?.
Cant think why its so noisy otherwise unless the impellor is sticking.

ahh the joys of setting up new equipment hey!!!! im sure some of you will remember some of the errrm shall we say amusingly frustrated posts i made whilst setting up my 100g. altho granted most were born of my own stupidity :lol:

stick with it minxy once you crack it and its working silently i guarentee you will never look back. :good:

ahh erm yeah I can think of one other reason, its sucking up the media into the impellor ( I did that when i put that green lattice in upside down it sucked the wooly filter into it ).

Have you tried tilting the filter to a 45degree angle and see if it goe's quiet?if no do it quickly and report back

MINE USED TO DO IT IT WAS JUST AIR TRAPPED IN MINE TRY WIGGLING IT FROM SIDE TO SIDE QUITE VIGEROUSLY BUT NOT HARD ENOUGH TO RISK BREAKING IT THATS WHAT WORKED FOR ME

Tis true that often external filters are noisier to start with, this is due to the motor pole where the magnetised impellor has been aligned being out of balance with the others - normally back in balance within a few hours, a dy or so at most. Air can cause a similar problem but likewise will dissapate after a while in most cases - or as suggested immediatley if you tilt the filter and shake it while running.

It sounds more like your impellor may be out of balance itself due to being damaged or badly formed during manufacture. It is accesible on your filter (although off the top of my head I can't remember how well enough to explain). But it is user replacable and the instructions will tell you how. Take it out and examine it, make sure the magnet doesn't spin the entire way round the impellor too.

Regards vacuum did you disconnect the hoses before prising the lid off?

I have tipped it, shaken it, hoses are on the right way, nothing will stop the noise, this morning it is still the same and frankly close to going down the garden under foot pressure!!

I cannot get to the impellor, you can remove the impellor cover but that is is, its in a sealed unit, unless I crack it with a hammer!!

The hoses are on two clamps David, so yes the top hoses were removed before trying to remove the cover, its on so tight it wont come off, hence the taking the top of the lid of, then lifting via the motor, seems to be the only way to do it.
