Ballon Mollies

Most mollies are pregnant all the time. Even if you have no male in the tank, she can store sperm form the last time she mated.

With balloon mollies, it is hard to tell by looking at them how far along they are, but it's safe to assume that she will be pregnant.

Oh, and :hi: to the forum :)

If it is pale and a light color for example, Silver mollies then sometimes you can see gravid spots (black spots inside the fish) just inside the belly of the fish, these indicate the fish is pregnant. But it is harder to tell with balloon mollies until their belly gets bigger when they are quite far on in their pregnancy, if you wanted to keep the babies then they usually give birth every 4-6 weeks (if there is a male in the tank with them) and when they are about to give birth they will get harassed by the male(s) and she will try and isolate her self, then when you see these signs just gently pop her into a breeding tank. If you don't want to keep the babies then the fish will just eat them, 1 or 2 might survive. to get it right it takes months of observing your fish to observe their behavior and their physical appearance so you can start to learn not only if they are pregnant but roughly when they will have their babies :)

Welcome to our forum sammie-007.
I am sorry to say that I have never learned how to judge a balloon fish's status. any of the clues that I use to judge a fish simply are hidden by the balloon distortions of the fish.
