Molly with lesion

Update. Molly has been in the hospital tank since August first. I swabbed the lesion with potassium permanganate once a day for three days. She has been active and eating well. The lesion is still present but has not progressed. Interestingly Molly delivered 15 fry yesterday. I placed Molly in a separate tank to protect the fry. Does giving birth make it less likely that she has TB or another contagion? Should I return Molly to the community tank?

There's no connection between whatever the dx is and giving birth. Though that she came through it and seems otherwise healthy is a good sign. Has the reddish area around the lesion changed at all? Personally, I would not return the fish to the community until I had a better grasp of what the lesion is.

That's good news and suggests the redness was bacterial and the PP took care of it. I was more concerned about the redness than the lesion. A couple of decades back there was a goldfish disease going around that started with Asian imports and spread like wildfire. It involved lesions and creeping red areas which eventually erupted. I don't recall what the dx was but it was nasty.

I’m back a month later with an update. I placed the Molly in the hospital tank on August 2. Each day for three days the lesion was bathed with a solution of potassium permanganate. She remained active with a great appetite. On August 19 she gave birth to between 25-30 fry. I separated her from the fry. She continues to look and act normal except the lesion is still present, maybe somewhat improved. I can’t keep her in the hospital tank indefinitely. Suggestions.

Do you think I can put her back in the community tank? She has been isolated in the hospital tank for a whole month. She still has a lesion on her right flank. It is somewhat improved. Other than the lesion, she is acting completely normal.

That’s outside my expertise . If it was me , yeah , I’d do it but I’m goofy that way . What say you @emeraldking ?
