Assasin Snail

I've just started noticing a few snails are appearing in my tank, I have been away for a week so obviously they have been happily getting about and more active due to less light than usual.

I want an easy way of getting rid of them, without chemicals etc... i've read a little on the Assasin Snail, if I get one of these, will it get rid of them whilst numbers are low, is it more hassle than it's worth, and can it reproduce on its own and cause it's own problems?

TBH I would only put assassins in your tank if you really want them, depending how many pest snails you have assassins don't really make that big an impact, they will eat a small snail or two then rest/sleep in the substrate for a few days. They are slow breeders as well so being over run with them shouldn't be a problem, you could sell them anyway. nice looking

Man I would love to be able to get hold of some snails - my clown loaches would love them!

So far I have to say that Assassin snails are just great. About a month ago I added 10 of them to one of my 55 gallon tanks that was badly infested with little pest snails. This picture (taken today)shows just a section of the bottom of the tank. The rest of it looks the same. The small brown spots you see are dead snail shells. One of the Assassin snails can be seen, toward the right, where it is digging down into the substrate to catch the burrowing pests.

I haven't seen any sign of them reproducing yet but I'd be happy to find babies. I can use the extras in my other tanks.

i have 2 loaches and 2 assassin snails my loaches dont touch the assassin snails. and my snail problem is gone
