trapdoor ( live bearer ) snail baby…

snails are usually an “Oh Yuck” topic for discussion… who wants billions of babies, and eggs all over the glass, hard structure, and plants but, they are much more interesting in the live bearer form, and only having one fully formed tiny little snail baby, at a time… my 3 trapdoors had one baby between them… they have not been here long enough for gestation, so the mother must have been pregnant when she arrived… these are in a 55 gallon tank, and you would think a 1/8 inch snail would get lost in a tank this size, but it prefers to stay on the glass, and so far has been easy to spot…
these are Viviparus malleattus ) Japanese Trapdoor snails… and from my reading the Viviparus species are all live bearers ( I’ve counted 3 different ones in the hobby, and all are live bearers )
anyone else raising the most interesting snails in the hobby???

I quite like the look of your snail there and they generally have some lovely patters, but unfortunately I don't think I will be able to get over my aversion enough to be able to put my hands into a tank with snails in.

so only the one baby about a week later, so likely only one pregnant when they came… all 3 of mine are marginally different enough in size to tell them apart, but I’ve not sexed them… at least one is female, but they all could be, for all I know right now… the tank has been holding 65 degrees almost naturally with the average temperature right now, and they seem to be thriving… my magnetic algae scraper for this tank arrives today, so there is a pretty good buildup right now, clearly visible are all the snail munch marks, so they have been busy…

I think a female, and baby on the drift wood, which has a fair amount of growth on it… I looked at the 3 mature snails, and 2 of them have equal / normal looking antenna, one has a antenna that is much thicker, and more curled ( I’m assuming that one is a male ) I’m glad to see the little guy going strong, my magnetic algae scraper for the front glass, came in yesterday, and I accidentally knocked the baby off the front glass, why like I was quickly cleaning it… the other dark spot, seemingly off in the middle of nothing in this picture is an Asian beetle, on the outside of the glass… the leaves are falling off the soy beans, after which, we typically are over run with them… too bad I haven’t found a fish that would eat them…

got a new baby recently, now 2 babies in this tank… so,2 babies in 2 weeks… typically the only snails to do well here long term, have been pest snails, and by no way is 2 weeks long term, but I’m optimistic with them having babies… still will have to wait longer, to see if they are actually reproducing here…

2 new babies today… the top one in this picture is very tiny, maybe they are capable of having 2 at a time??? I now have 4 young ones…
