Are My Guppies O.k?

:) that's ok, thought you may have mixed them up.

Well my tank has two guppies and they have been in there for bout 5 days now.

Just hope the levels drop before any damage is done, and especially now I think the female is pregnant!

With regards to sexing, guppies are by far, in my opinion, the easiest fish to sex.

If they have a gonopodium it's male, if it doesn't it isn't.

Simply look online to find out what gonopodia look like, they are like an odd shaped fin near the anal fin.
They are a flattened protuberance, it may help to consider them to be a guppies 'penis', gonopodia are used to insert sperm into the female.

it will take several more days. and yes water changes are the best way to go.

Do you also agree that the female is pregnant Waterdrop?
She doesn't look terribly pregnant to me but she also looks young and they can be more pregnant without looking it as much. Of course one way or another guppy females are pretty much -always- pregnant, lol. They are the rabbits of the water world!

Well I'm not sure what to do lol...

Should I just leave her in the tank or should I get one of those breeding plastic cages to make sure the fry survive...

This all is a totally new experience for me lol

Well I'd hate to tell you what to do and have it take away some good stories years later, lol.

(I'm probably the wrong one for this advice as with guppies and a startup tank situation I'd probably say just let them see if they happen to make it on their own. There will be more in short order and after you've sorted other things you could then devote more attention to the breeding process if you want to try for some prettier fins among your offspring etc.) (of course every home situation is different and some have small children and are concerned about what they're seeing...)

~~waterdrop~~

Oh why thank you waterdrop for the lack of advice :p haha

only kidding.

Yeah I think I may just leave them in the tank then. There is plenty of hiding space now...

I will be surprised if they do survive, bad water conditions and two 'adults' to avoid. If they do they will be strong little Guppies haha

Not saying you can't buy a breeding trap and perhaps fry food if you want to enjoy it.

Maybe you could luck into a bunch of floating plants at your LFS!

Well there's enjoying it, and actually being able to enjoy it... if that makes any sense... (im rather tired...) haha

Won't the fry die, considering my Nitrite is STILL at 2.0ppm :(

Well I have tomorrow free, so Water changes every hour until my Nitrite drops to 0ppm is my goal :)

I may get a snail for this small tank to clean some algae...

I was thinking, I could have used the old filter sponge I got with my 2ft tank to speed up my fishless cycles couldn't I...?

Theoretically, one is supposed to only ever do one fishless cycle in one's life and then all the rest are "tank clones." But that assumes one waits long enough before getting another tank. :D
