I'll try and keep this short. Found High levels of Nitrate in the tank . Went to local shop and found the above product - see link for details

http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=1307&pf_id=54933

Asked exactly how this worked and was given the impression it would somehow be wedged into the filter - WRONG!

On opening the ' teabag', described by the assistant, was more like 6 teabags in size. My Fluval U2 filter has absolutely no available space for such a thing.

As usual, the item is now not in a state to be returned and I appear to have wasted £11.

Is there any other way I could make use of this item in the tank itself etc?

Sorry about wasting £11. The beat way to get rid of nitrates is water change.

I don't believe in anything these company say that they do. Nothing can beat a good water change.

I can't help on what these things can be use for as I've never seen them before. I'm sure someone will be on with more experience to be able to help

If I said to an assistant "Will this fit in my U2 filter?" and she said "Yes", then I found it wouldn't fit, I would return to the shop with it and ask for a refund or credit. You don't try, you don't get.

API nitrate test kits generally aren't too good, I'd take any readings with a pinch of salt, 80PPM isn't bad actually, but lower would be ideal, water changes would be the best solution.

Water changes are the best way to reduce nitrates but did it ever cross your mind that some of us have ridiculous levels of nitrates in our tap water?? My tap water is currently 40 - 50ppm, so a water change is only good for re-refreshing and replenishing the aquarium and absolutely does sod all to reduce nitrates!

I use nitrasafe by interpet in a spare fluval +2 filter inside a 80liter bin to remove nitrates from my tap water before adding the water to the aquarium, the 1st couple of uses reduces the nitrates from 40ppm to 5ppm, after a few recharges it is reduced to 10ppm then I replace after about 5 recharges. I am sure you can work this way with API nitra-zorb.
