All The Way From Thailand! - They Are Here!

Oh!!.. ok... I get it... Problem is, I have moved my "hatched" fish to their new home, by simply submerging their hatching container into the receiving tank with plants and substrate (fully set up).... - so basically, impossible to re-separate the peat for dry-out....

If I just leave it in there, and remove the larger fish to a new tank.... the "unhatched" fish will thus continue hatching until all is done...

Even before reading your answer tonight, I also moved the 2nd batch (15/19 fry) to this tank with their peat included. HOWEVER.... I still count less than 10 in the new tank... Maybe, if I just give them enough time until they are bigger so that they can be counted more accurately.

Righteo!!!.. Just to make absolutely sure, I've just been on Aquabid again, and placed another bid on 2 batches of 100 eggs each.... first bid closes in 5 hours and the 2nd in 6 hours.... I'll know by tomorrow if I'm the winning bid, so there is another (agonising) month left for me waiting for the deliveries... (If I win the bid).

Jeez Lud you dont really need any more.
You have either missed fry that have hatched, fry have died when hatch due to lack of food or other anomaly. Or what I consider to be the case the eggs have not gone through the proper diapause time for that particular species. Hence the need to re-dry and store the peat.
Picture this senario...the seller might send you some eggs ready to hatch, (whoopee instant fish as you have already stated) he may also include in that collection of eggs some eggs that are not yet just ready again hence the need to re-dry the peat. The eggs that you have left in the water will not hatch, they need to go through their dry period (diapause) Each species of annual has a different diapause period which is geared to the weather patterns endemic to the particular location from their home turf. This is in-bred and they will not hatch in water.

I have so many empty tanks atm, that I can actually afford to get another 200.... the deal was closed and I won the bids and paid and was promissed that they will be sent on the 12th with a (plus or minus) 21 day delivery period. (if I have to buy again, I will buy species specific and not a mix of 3 species)

The last batch was today also placed in the receiving tank.... (they were almost 50 when transferred).... They are all fully onto shrimp and my brine hatching programme is sorted out to have a constant flow of artemia.... Cannot wait for them to start showing colours... will (maybe) have some progressive pics in about 2 weeks.

I started off in about 2" of water and gradually filled (daily) and I am up to around 9" now... yet, I am not happy with the growth rate... they are still (much) smaller than newborn guppy fry... I would've thought they would be bigger by now.

At times, I count about 5 of them and then an hour later, I'd get 45.... S'pose I'll only be able to tell when they get bigger.

I have another bare tank ready with about 3" of water where I'll transfer the bigger ones once they look to be threatening the smaller ones.

I said so before, and I say it again.... I'm not the world's best photographer, but for those with a trained eye... this is where I have them... (look closely, & you might see one or 9 of them)... still some ways to go before they are "fish"...

I'm using the gravel siphon to hatch brine shrimp for them... it works well.

Tonight again... I counted 30 fry. But they are not growing fast enough to my expectations.

Gawd, Lud, you must be a nightmare to live with :hyper:

Seffie x

Say you.... living with "him" inside... (or what do you call him)??... Just to let you know... on Tuesday, my wife celebrates her 36th year of living with this nightmare....

So, last night I moved the first 5 over to a new tank, to see how they cope.... If they're still fine today, there are about 15 more to move in order to separate the bigger ones from the smaller ones to prevent cannabalism.... The biggest ones are now only slightly bigger than newly born guppies.

(at work right now, so I'll check up at about 10'o clock. (am)

Eventually, I moved over a total of 35 of the biggest fish to their new quarters... They are all perfectly happy and there seems to be more than 35 left in the original tank... At least another 15 to be moved soon to prevent cannibalism....

It appears that most of the bigger ones are Eggerssi Reds.... Time will tell, but they are bigger than newborn guppies... (almost like newborn Mollies)....

My next batch (of 200 eggs) will be delivered approximately June 10.

My next batch (of 200 eggs) will be delivered approximately June 10.

Wow!!... Understatement of the year.... My new batch hath arroveth.... This time it took only 11 days from Thailand to SA... Their Hatch by date is 13th June, so Ill hide them somewhere in a cool, dark place and place them in water around the 16th....

Dunno if it's my poor eyesight (at this age) but the golden Irises trick will not work for me... I cannot even see any eggs in the peat... let alone the golden Irises

The current batch is coming on just famously.... I'll have some "legible" pics up soon.

Well!!!... Right here Right now!!.. I've decided to get meself a new camera... I can see them all clearly, but cannot reproduce a photograph showing the true monty... Top down photo is the best image I can get with my 8.1 megapixel Samsung camera.... Maybe I'm doing it wrong... or I just suck at taking photos.... Here are some photos of my Thailand babies.
(If you can make out what's going on) - There are 40 of them in this tank.
