Nothobranchius - trying short lived killifish

This gets more amazing by the day . Today my Nothobranchius guentherii Zanzibar are six weeks and two days old . I just noticed that several of the males are actively pursuing the females and trying out their little spawning embrace . Time to separate out some good females and fatten them up . These fish are ready to perpetuate the species . SIX WEEKS ! ! ! View attachment 372338
I bet it is all that live food you feed them.

I guess that could be but if you give any fish what they need they’ll respond . They’re also on frozen brine shrimp now too . I gave them some earlier this week just to see what would happen and they went on a feeding frenzy . Even the smaller ones grabbed it and ripped it to pieces . Growing as fast as they do must mean they have a high metabolism . Guppies grow fast , we’ve all seen that but this is unbelievable to a guy like me that’s never seen this before . I have many males that are completely colored up and really aren’t fry anymore . They are young fish .

That’s terrific. My Apistogramma cacatuoides don’t color up until adulthood. My Julidochromis transcriptus offspring look like adults (black and white barber pole), very early on. It amuses me to see these 2 mm barber poles swimming around.

It all comes down to one thing . Little fish are cool . I love having fry from any fish and raising them up . The funnest thing in the aquarium hobby is raising your own fish that were born in your aquarium . Funner than that is raising up fry from fish you’ve bred . It’s like @GaryE said recently . You raise fish from the third generation and you start really learning about them .
