Cheffi Remind us of whats in the tanks ATM
and a link to a tank pic please. ?

Just for you nick

3 Cyrtocara Moorii
3 Melanochromis Cyaneorhabdos (maingano)
5 Pseudotropheus Acei
4 Maylandia Estherae
1 Labidochromis Hongi Red Top
2 Cynotilapia Mbamba 4 Juvies
1 Cynotilapia Pulpican
8 Synodontis Petricola (soon to be moved into their own tank)
2 Bristlenose

Here's the only tank shot I've got. Was taken when I'd just put fish in and had problems with the brown stuff, but it's more or less exactly the same. Must take some new photo's, without the brown algae.

Saulosi , they are very popular ATM small, peacefull and good colouring they might be more your suitable for your tank ?

I`m sure Justin will agree !

My order from drsfosterandsmith just came. The Burundi will get his new cichlid sand and get rid of most of the coral gravel. Along with three boxes of other stuff.

They are sitting on Cheffi's couch.

 sorry I'm not with you. I've lost the plot and shortly the will to live............ :-(

I also like the Saulosi but are they not better in a species tank?

No, I think people just choose them for species tanks because of the interesting colouring of both sexes (blue striped male/deep yellow female) if your going to just have one species may as well be interesting ?, also the fact they are relatively small and relatively peaceful makes them more suitable for a smaller tank.
Another thing is the young are born yellow and the males take on the blue colouring when sexually mature.

Just a question Cheffi, I`d be interested to know how you get on with 3 Cynotilapia species, do all three males fully colour up ? and tolerate each other ?

I`ve been told it`s a no no.

In that case nick when I can find some decent sized Saulosi I will certainly try them. 1m 2f if poss.

I don't think I have 3 C species do I? Any how I'm not sure I have the best examples of the species. The male Mbamba is pretty colourful but not compared to the CF photo's and the Pulpican does colour up reasonably especially when he tries to woo the blue dolphin females. My whole tank is peaceful to the point of resembling a cemetary  If there is ever a tiff it's with the humungous Acei and 'Miss Piggy', the large Zebra male but that's a pretty half hearted affair. I'm sure they do it for my benefit. I'm hoping at some point to rehome the dolphins. They don't look right in there and I don't want to wait til they get too big. I also didn't quite intend ending up with 5 Acei, the largest male is huuuge. I want to get back to the smaller species and stay away from the big 'uns.

I do, they are fantastic fish, however, it's taken me a year to get the saulsoi and the sex ratio i wanted (actually i'm still not completely there yet  )

from my searches ADULT females are comparatively rare, and also expensive in comparision, so i would take your chances with some middle sized ones and see how you go, or the other route would be to buy guaranteed pairs of WC fish, but again, you'll pay through the nose and still end up with 2M and 2F rather than at least a trio ..

On the subject of the tank - thats a new tank right Cheffi - not the same as the one that was there when i dropped off the petricolas right?

what size is your pulpican?? i have loads of spare juve pulpicans and they are between 1" and 2" and most i think (apart from one) is male, that may help, but then again, you say you don't want any extra spawnings..

These are my two mbambas, are they anything like yours Cheffi? mine are hte mpanga bay type

Well Dru you know my thoughts on WC fish so I'm not fussed whether they are or not. I shall def keep my eyes out but need to rehome a few as mentioned previously.

Dru you must have been tired when you dropped those Petri off...I know women like to change their handbags and shoes every month but fish tanks!!!! Of course it's the same one except as I said that was when I put first fish in and still had diatoms in tank.

No I def don't want to encourage any more spawning :/

The top one looks close to mine except they are not quite as yellow on dorsal the bottom one not even close. Def don't want labs they are so 'yesterday', everybody has them ;) The hongi idea I quite like. I'm very fond on my hongi. I think I should have stuck to my first original idea and like Ferris gone for an all male tank.

i thought i remember you posting a request for wanting a 6 fott tank somewhere - but don't quote me on that as age is catchin up with me finally :hey:

the other factor in my favour was that it was a lovely sunny day outside and i remember seeing a dark wood tank, but that picture has been taken maybe at night, and quite frankly i think people may talk if i recognised your tank only from a 'ngiht shot'

I have hongi - the females are drab, but the males a real stunner but if your male displays all the time already, maybe there is not much need for females ??

go on then, chuck a dozen demos in to spice things up :D

hope i'm not hijacking,

have a look at what i dug out from a few months back,

fancy something like either the fulliborni (marmalade cat) the trevasare or the pearl cobalt in your tank setup to add colour and interest and mabe a different shape?

It was a lovely sunny day, I remember but my tank is not dark wood it is light pine. :) I'm still looking for a 6 footer but it has to not be more than 24" in depth and nothing 2nd hand has come up yet. :(

Ok, Cheffi, I'm ready to see a nice panorama picture spread of your tank, please. I really couldn't see the fish good in the one you just posted. I like pictures with captions  :fun:

Nevertheless, looking again now, I like the rock work very much. Now you and Dru must come help me! Dru can sleep in the car.
