Air Pump

Should an air pump be put into your tank.i got an elite 802 with the tank which it says does up to 75us galls.My tank is an aqua one ar980 which is 215litres.Filter flow rate1000l/hr. i have malawi cichlids. 6 fish& 2 plecs

Welcome to the forum Tattiescone.
You use an air pump if you like the bubbles in your tank. It is not needed as long as you get adequate water circulation from the filter itself. If you have poor water flows, an air stone can promote better circulation by moving lots of water with the bubbles. I have no idea what the gallon rating on air pumps is all about, but I have seen it quite often. If you were running an air driven filter, such as an undergravel filter, it might relate to how much air it would take to move enough water for a tank that size. Who knows what a manufacturer has in mind with that kind of label? At 1000L/hr on a 215 litre tank, your water flow should be fine without the air pump adding to the flow.

As previously suggested, an air pump/stone is 99% decoration so the choice to use one is entirely a personal one.

The AquaOne 980 if used with the supplied canopy wet/dry trickle filter should aerate the water quite sufficiently for most aquatic life

Thanks oldman47,sorry i took so long to reply,not too clever on the old computer. Didnt fancy putting it in the tank but when you look at tanks in the forum there seems to be a lot of tanks with air pumps in them. Thought i was maybe missing out on something. Thanks again
