About 12 days ago I purchased 2 black phantom tetras and an oto from Petco.

I noticed some strange swimming from one of the tetras on day one, but chalked it up to the trip home (long trip on bus. :/).

Well, I have no discovered it was not due to the long trip home and I have a 95% positive ID on Whirling Disease.

This disease is not curable, contagious, and lethal.

So now I am lost on what to do. From what I have read a UV sterilizer is a good option, but not realistic at the moment with a price tag of $50+.

I'm unsure what to do here because it is a contagious, uncurable, and lethal disease and has been introduced into my main tank now. I have read lots of information, but also lots of contradicting informatoin.

I'm not even 100% positive on method of contagion between fishes as I have read 4 different version of it.

The only positive method is via Tubifex worms bred from trout and salmon hatchery run off.

So, I don't know what to do with my main tank.

What I do know is I am calling petco and going to ask for their help in remedieing something they introduced into my tank.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tell petco that you want a major discount on the UV sterilizer OR you want it free due to their lack of knowledge and care for these fish before you brought them. I'm sure if you looked up something about customer rights they might be able to give you some info. :flex:

I don't know anything about Whirling Disease im affraid but i hope it doesn't turn out too bad for you.
