Question:
I just got the water tested and it is perfect. My female guppy i added still is acting like it is going to die by hiding in corners and such, but it is living and i havent seen any of the other fish act negatively towards her. Hopefully she will be fine soon. Maybe i will add another in hopes of her becoming less shy because right now i only have 1 male guppy and 1 female. They like larger groups right? The ghost shrimp are all alive and doing very well. They are fun to watch!

with guppies its always good for mixed pairs to have 1 male to 2 females, imo with your tank id return the male ASAP before he impregnates the female so you wont end up with tons of babies.

Question
Also, I have been feeding my fish only flake food. Is this alright for the fish i have? I have tried to feed them lettuce and cucumber, but they wont eat it. Apricot is actually the only thing i got a couple of my tetras to pick at.

i forget your sstock but if i remember correctly yes the flake is fine if its a good quality. it would help to give em spirunila (itll say on the container)

Question:
I have hundreds of those little algae eating snails that are tiny and multiply quickly. I like them because they do a great job cleaning the tank, but i hear many people dont like them. Is there anything negative about these snails?

Some eat plants and are overall unsightly to have hundreds of snails crawling all over the tank, i dont think they should be a problem unless there are wayyy to many, if they keep growing in #s it means you are overfeeding, if you want try cutting back to feeding once every other day

Gab99 i need you back to answer my questions!
LOL you can always pm people :good:

Thank you sir! much appreciated! The female guppy died today, but i was looking to get over run with babies. I thot it would be fun. I think now i will just buy a couple more males though. 2 more male guppies would do well to fill up the tank

I got a 20 gallon high today!! Woot Woot!

Its the largest upgrade i can get since the tank will be moving in and out of the dorm room.

Now i need stocking ideas.

So far i have:
3 BS tetras
3 Ghost Shrimp
1 male Guppy

I would love to add a gourami or an angel fish, but would that be out of the question? I think i will deffinately add more BS tetras and im not sure what to do about the guppy. I don't want to add more because the one i have now gets its fins pecked by the BS tetras.

get the BS tetras up to 6

then a pearl gourami or dwarf gourami would be nice :)

and maybe a few more guppies if you want

for the bottom id say either small loaches or cories :)

maybe a few otos they are fun and if you get plants eventually they wont nom nom nom on them

What are the small loaches that i should try to get ahold of? I want clowns, but i realize they get way too big. Kuhli's?

By the way, Gab99 thank you for being my go to guy!

yeah try your basic khulis tbh thats all i can think of at the moment  a bit tired lol

if not maybe a spotted raphael cat? they are nocturnal so they do give a bit of a day and night life to your tank.

lol thanks for the compliment but im in no way an expert, so i cant really be certain everything will be correct, but i try...

well you deffinately know a lot more than me. And things that i think i know are confirmed by you, so i feel good inside.

Ok so i just switched tanks to a 20 gallon high! I took out the fish and put them in bowls, then transfered most of the water along with the gravel and heater over, then filled the rest of my tank and waited until it was at normal temp. My fish are in the new tank now. I should have clean water and plenty of bacteria. I did this correctly didnt i?

The pic came out very blue, but really it is just a light aqua color.

I bought the tank and everything for $30, the stand for $20! I love craigslist.

Nice tanks

I like the walls

I would love one of those

Despite what people say about tank decorations

I like them!

yes of course. I added water by the gallon, putting drops and conditioning salt in each gallon.

Ok so for my stocking ideas:

one
6 BS tetras
1 Dwarf blue gourami
Ghost shrimps and maybe a couple corys if i can find small enuf ones

two
2 angel fish
corys

I got new fish today!

I now have:

5 BS tetras
1 male guppy
1 balloon molly- looks pregnant
3 ghost shrimp

They all seem to be getting along well.

Do you think i could still add a dwarf gourami? Well i guess it depends on how man babies survive actually.

What would be the best way to transport my tank down to my dorm next week?

Best I'd say is to place all the fish in secure containers, in tank water. Keep some water in the bottom of the tank so the gravel stays wet. The bacteria won't die that way. Also make sure to keep the filters wet with tank water. Absolutely don't let them dry out.

Oh and keep the whole ordeal as quick as possible :) I've moved my tank around probably 4-5 times in the last few years and haven't had any problems following what I just said.

No one stop to question the female guppy dying? I'm seeing some serious floors in this thread :good:

Did the guppy show any signs of illness? what are your water parameters, actual ones not just 'fine'.

Do not give anyone a piece of your filter media, if it is not cycled.

Gravel only holds certain bacterias, when not disturbed. Once you move that gravel around, say buh-bye to that bacteria.

There is no need to run 2 filters, remove the media from the current filter and place it in the new one..........hey presto, completo...........

Now for the interesting part...............guppies and mollies can and will cross breed. For a happy tank, I would advise that you should return the molly or rehome your male guppy.

I dont have the actual water parameters, but i know by colors on the strips that my tank water is the lowest on the nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia etc, meaning good! The female guppy never really looked good since i brought it home. It stayed alive for about 2 weeks, but it never looked good. Since then i have put the 2 bs tetras and the molly in the tank and they r doing great!!

I am only running one filter, the aquaclear 30 which has been running for a month now. As for the cross breeding, o'well! We will just see what they look like if it happens! Sounds cool to me.

As far as moving the tank, i plan to take out bout 16 gallons of the 20 and put them in water containers along with the fish. I will keep the filter in a plastic bag with the water so that the good bateria will stay active.

Thanks for the advice guys!
