I think this might only be me but as a fish owner with multiple tanks I am constantly impulsively buying fish and my partner with me is constantly stopping me because “I don’t need it” but I do I need it for my happiness
But today I stopped myself from buying a fish without my partner saying anything…… yay go me
Does anyone else have a problem like this or just me LOL 🤣

If you stopped yourself buying fish, then in my book, you've let yourself and the hobby down

yes, I have stocking level issues and MTS... but lately been so busy, and too many things taxing my wallet... may be a good thing, as it seems to be the only way I don't buy fish... well at least I don't have a problem

Collecting treats fish as things, and we have to treat them as animals. I had to learn that, and it took a few overstocked tanks and poorly researched combinations of species for me to learn that, way back when.

I make my life difficult to stop that. I made a rule (to live by!) that I never bought a fish from a store the first time I saw it. I noted the name, went home, researched its needs and looked at my tanks to see if I had space for it to thrive. If everything fit, I would go back for it.

If going back was too much effort, I had my answer right there.

If you overstock, then you're buying the fish for consumerist impulses. It isn't going to thrive, show you cool behaviour or even look its best, so you have caught yourself being a collector. There are teacups, bottle caps and inanimate objects for that.

But this is all fine, until you you join an aquarium club and the fish show up in auctions where you have to make snap decisions.
