I was thinking about this and perhaps you might mean per family like the smiths, the jones, the andersson, the gustafsson, ....

The Latin name corydoras has just become an English common name. There's no problem with calling them all corydoras, but it's going to make it harder for you to get up to date info on them within a few years. If you figure you know enough already, you're good.

If we care about the evolutionary relationships, then we learn the Latin names. They makes sense as they follow observations aquarists have made for years, about the different groups that used be in Corydoras.

It'll take time for me to learn what travels under what name, as there are a lot of species to sort out. I'll get there.

Spelling. I was looking up info on Epiplatys spilargyreius today, a fish I always spell with difficulty. I may never get that right on try number one. But as usual, I could get info on it with that name from sources with more than one language, in my case English and French. And I know people here who can't even properly spell simple words like honour, labour or centre...

So what can you do but live with it? Or follow @jaylach 's trick.

I wish someone told me in the 2nd grade when i took spelling tests i could copy/paste. Would have raised my grades a bit.

English is an odd language. Take your example of 'honour, labour and centre'. The way I spelled in the previous sentence is Commonwealth English or honor, labor and center in American English. both are actually considered correct spellings. English is supposed to be one of the hardest to learn as a second language due to stupid cases such as 'to, too and two'.
