to be fair, the kids do really like cardinals...

I've just remembered I have a tardis in the garage, so I think that'll have to be the centerpiece/inspiration.

Thinking... abandoned tardis parked in between some rocks overlooking grassy meadow, now overgrown by java fern and claimed by fish... ...complete with betta called "The Doctor" obviously, and cardinals which could be collectively known by whichever of the Doctor's minions are currently part of the show...

I feel like someone in the Betta section has actually beaten you to 'Doctor' idea! Looked really cute though.

Also, love the idea of 'it's for the kids'. I told my OH that my new tank was so I didn't have three little tanks... It was actually so I didn't only have three little tanks but a bigger tank as well!!

I showed him the thread, he laughed. A lot. guess I shan't be getting killed over this after all! I did think of another factor in my favour: with a 3 tier stand then the open topped tank will be out of the reach of the cats (who love fish) and the toddler (who really loves fish), this can only be a good thing. I dread the idea of picking bread, raisins, cars, pens, paper, whatever crap happens to be to hand out of the tank...

I do like ember tetras, I could be persuaded by them...

I am loving the Black Ruby Barbs. These or Pentazonian Barbs are going to be my group for my next project when i finally get around to setting it up. They will be going in with a pair of Jade Eyeds.

no no no... my biotope is going to be open topped, I had planned on a 2 tier stand.

If I get another tank, I can get a 3 tier stand, have the kids tank in the middle, complete with lid! and my biotope on the top away from paws and hands!

LOL! Open tops are great, but i worry too much about evaporation and jumping fish. Even though none of my fish do jump they still dive up at the surface when feeding.

cant have emergent and marginal plants with a hood I also worry about crispy jumpers, but I guess that comes with the territory. Andy bought 30 rasbora for his tank didn't he, he's now at 18
