20gallon Journal - Updated Daily - Indir

Water update 12 hours after last update:
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 40

Still looking good, doing my feeding as instructed gonna get some fish on sunday or monday i think.

If i was to plant a "carpet" plant such as dwarf hair grass, would the BN still be able to live? :S As i know eventualy the dwarf hair grass would take up the entire bottom of tank...?

Regards,
Indir

BN would be fine, when he gets bigger he might bulldoze your carpet a bit but it won't do him any damage.

Okay so he will be fine then? Cool. I want to get that carpet effect for the tank :) Will look more natural and great :) Hehe. Thanks everyone, gonna pop into LFS tomorrow i think, so i can check out the fish i intend on getting and to see what they have to offer for me :D

Still havnt decided a center fish for sure yet :) Gouramis seem to be the most suggested though. Any other center fish?

Regards,
Indir

have you looked at any of the dwarf cichlids, rams, kribensis, apistogramma sp etc?

Thanks truckl, tank sits between 26-28 thought (depending if light is on or not, and how hot it is in my room lol)

And i have checked out a few of them MW but many of them are agressive as far as i can tell :\ Dont want agression in the tank now do we hehe.

Still not sure though :\ will keep looking :)

Regards,
Indir

there are degree's of agression, some of the dwarf cichlids can be a little fiesty but they're not gonna torture your other fish. added to which the fiestyness actually makes them fascinating little fish to watch IMHO.

Your choice though!

whatever takes your fancy really, the vast majority of the apistogramma species are basically identical in temprement but just look different so just whicever you like the looks of.

Thanks alot MW. Ill check them out tonight. Almost the weekend, yay :D haha.

If the entire ground was covered in dwarfhair grass where exactly would the BN go? Through the grass?

Regards,
Indir

through and on top of the grass, sat on under and generally around any decor in the tank, on the tank glass, sat on plant leaves if you have any plants robust enough to support them. all over the place basically. :good:

Ahh i understand hehe thought they would wanna be on the gravel :D Thanks MW.

Know much about "Apistogramma cacatuoides" (cockatoo dwarf cichlid)? Im wondering how hardy they are, i know their easy to breed but the few sites ive raid recomend 6.5 to 7 PH.... Hope this isnt true as mine it 7.4 lol :D

Regards,
Indir

I've kept them at 7.2-7.4 before with no difficulties so I think they'd be fine.

:good:

So I take it the filter seems to be taking the ammonia and NO2 down to zero despite the introductions of fish food this week? You're feeling the filter is cycled nicely?

Should make for a fun weekend if this is the one.
